The Nivada Grenchen ChaosMaster is a three-watch collaboration with Time+Tide and seconde/seconde/, built on the Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver. Its end-of-the-world theme is playful creative framing, not a prediction. The original versions—Shades, Swirly and Sigh of Relief—share the same watch platform, with upside-down dial printing and an emoji in place of the running-seconds arrow hand.
What is the Nivada Grenchen ChaosMaster?
Launched in 2022, the ChaosMaster collaboration brought together Nivada Grenchen, watch publication Time+Tide and artist seconde/seconde/. It reworks the Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver, a chronograph, through small but conspicuous visual changes. Time+Tide’s launch story also credits Corey Crawford with the accompanying dystopian imagery; that imagery expresses the project’s imagined-chaos concept, rather than evidence of a real-world threat. Time+Tide’s November 30, 2022 launch article introduced the three emoji-named watches.
How the three versions differ
The launch report presents the variants as expressions of the same design idea, not as different mechanical or performance specifications. Their names are Shades, Swirly and Sigh of Relief. The report does not provide a full variant-by-variant specification table or enough detail to rank one above another.

Across the trio, the textured dial, small indices and arrow hands of the base watch were largely retained. The running-seconds hand at 9 o’clock was replaced by an emoji, while the dial text was printed upside down. Small plus-sign branding nods to seconde/seconde/. The launch source identifies the three emoji names but does not provide enough detail to describe additional differences between their individual emoji treatments.

Shared watch specifications
Time+Tide’s 2022 article gives the case dimensions as 38 × 46.60 × 13.75 mm in its specification table. Its narrative separately calls the case 38.3 mm across, an alternate rounding. The same launch report lists these shared specifications:
- Case: Stainless steel, with drilled lugs and an unguarded crown.
- Crystal: Sapphire.
- Water resistance: 100 m, as reported in the 2022 launch article.
- Bezel: Bidirectional aluminum insert with a countdown scale and a 12-hour scale. The article notes that the 12-hour scale can track another time zone if the wearer keeps AM and PM in mind.
- Movement: Manually wound Sellita SW510 variant, reported with 23 jewels, a 63-hour power reserve and a 4 Hz beat rate.
- Chronograph layout: Two-register, cam-operated configuration, with a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and running seconds at 9 o’clock—the position changed to an emoji hand on the ChaosMaster.
- Strap: Tropic-style, quick-release strap.
These movement details are specifications reported by Time+Tide for the 2022 launch; they should not be read as independently verified movement documentation.

Original edition and the later trio release
The original 2022 launch was limited to 33 pieces per variant, at a launch price of US$1,995 plus taxes, according to Time+Tide. Those are historical launch details, not a current price or an assurance that a watch is available.
A later ChaosMasters release used different dial colors and was presented as a collector trio in a box. It is distinct from the original issue of 33 pieces per emoji variant; the releases should not be conflated. Time+Tide’s later-release article describes that follow-up.

Availability and what to check before buying
On October 8, 2026, the Time+Tide Rare & Limited collection page showed Swirly and Sigh of Relief at A$3,295 each and a Trio set at A$9,500; all three listed entries were marked out of stock. This is a time-specific status for those listings only. It does not establish the availability of Shades elsewhere or the state of the secondary market. Nivada Grenchen’s official home page provides current collection and retailer context but does not confirm ChaosMaster stock.
If you are considering a pre-owned example, compare the specific variant and its provenance rather than assuming the three originals have different mechanics. Check the watch’s condition, whether its original packaging and strap are included, the seller’s return terms, and a current verified price. The available launch and listing information does not establish which variant holds value better.

The original model was described with a quick-release strap and drilled lugs, but exact fit for replacement straps was not confirmed. Nivada’s official accessories collection includes Chronomaster strap categories; verify lug width and attachment compatibility with the seller or brand before ordering.
