The Nivada Grenchen Chronoking Aviator Sea Diver Meca-quartz pairs quartz timekeeping with a mechanical chronograph module in a 38 mm steel case. Announced in 2023 as a continuation of the brand’s Chronomaster/Aviator Sea Diver design lineage, it was listed at €437.95 at launch. That is a historical price, not a confirmed current offer.
What makes the Chronoking a meca-quartz watch?
A meca-quartz movement combines a battery-powered quartz system for ordinary timekeeping with a mechanical module for the stopwatch. Nivada Grenchen describes the Chronoking’s Seiko-sourced VK64 as having a quartz timekeeping base and a mechanical chronograph module; its technical sheet says the movement is assembled in Switzerland. The whole movement is therefore not mechanical.
The distinction matters in use: quartz regulates the watch’s time indications, while the mechanical chronograph mechanism provides the stopwatch action and reset feel. Nivada Grenchen characterizes the result as reliable, but that is the maker’s claim, not a published independent timing test. Guillaume Laidet, the brand’s CEO, summarized the design this way: “The battery replaces the barrel, and the quartz replaces the balance. Everything else is gearing.”

How many were made?
The quantity is inconsistent across the brand’s launch materials. Nivada Grenchen’s February 17, 2023 launch article says 150 pieces, while the technical press sheet says 100. The sources do not resolve the discrepancy, so neither figure should be treated as an uncontested edition count.
What was the launch price, and is it current?
The technical sheet lists original retail prices of $479, CHF 479 and €437.95. Nivada Grenchen’s launch article says the watch would be available from February 20, 2023, at €437.95. These are launch-era prices; current stock and pricing have not been verified.

How does the Chronoking fit the brand’s history?
The 2023 release continues the Chronomaster/Aviator Sea Diver design lineage. Nivada Grenchen’s current “100 Years of Swiss Watchmaking” chronology dates the Chronomaster’s introduction to 1961, while the 2023 launch article gives 1963. The brand’s chronology records the Chronoking collection’s arrival in 2023; the earlier model’s date remains inconsistent between those two official sources.
Laidet framed the watch’s appeal around a smaller-wearing chronograph: “I wanted to give all Nivada Grenchen lovers the opportunity to acquire an affordable chronograph that doesn’t look like a hockey puck on their wrist.” That is the CEO’s stated aim, rather than an independent assessment of fit or value.
