“Nivada Grenchen Chronoking” names a family of watches, not one fixed specification. Current Chronoking Mecaquartz models and vintage manual-winding examples differ in movement, size and design, so identify the exact reference before comparing features or buying. The available sources document specifications and operation, but not personal wear testing; this is a sourced overview rather than a firsthand review.
Which Nivada Grenchen Chronoking is this?
Nivada Grenchen, which says it was founded in Grenchen, Switzerland, in 1926, currently lists a Chronoking Mecaquartz Racing Carbon in its watch assortment. The name also appears on vintage watches and other variants, including models with interchangeable bezels and a limited Orange “Paul Newman” Valjoux 23 VZ. Before treating any detail as representative, check the reference number, dial, movement and whether the watch is a current model or a vintage example. Dimensions and functions below apply only to the particular model or listing identified.
What the Chronoking Mecaquartz Racing Carbon listing specifies
Belmont Watches lists reference 87049Q20 as a Chronoking Racing Carbon with a 38 mm stainless-steel case, 13.4 mm thickness, 46.5 mm lug-to-lug and 20 mm lug width. Its listed features include a TMI VK63 Mecaquartz movement, chronograph function and double-domed sapphire crystal. These are specifications for that reference, not a universal Chronoking spec sheet. Belmont characterizes the VK63 Mecaquartz as combining quartz timekeeping with a mechanical chronograph module. That description is the retailer’s explanation of the movement; it should not be generalized to vintage Chronokings, which can have different movements.
How the Mecaquartz chronograph works
The Chronoking Mecaquartz instruction manual says the stopwatch measures up to 60 minutes. It describes the controls and indications as follows:

How vintage Chronokings can differ
A Watches of Switzerland vintage listing describes a 1970s Chronoking reference 4330 as a manual-winding watch with a 43 mm stainless-steel case and 21 mm lug width. - Movement: establish whether it is Mecaquartz, manual winding or another movement, and ask what documentation supports that identification.
- Fit and dimensions: verify diameter, thickness, lug-to-lug and lug width for the exact reference.
- Chronograph: check the layout and operating instructions for that model; do not assume all Chronokings share the Mecaquartz manual’s 60-minute stopwatch.
- Vintage condition: request clear condition details and any available service documentation.
- Purchase terms: check what accessories are included, who the seller is, and the return terms.
- Live details: confirm the exact reference, current price, inventory and warranty with the seller before purchase.
For the cited Racing Carbon reference 87049Q20, Belmont lists a 20 mm lug width; the cited vintage reference 4330 is listed at 21 mm.
