The Nivada Grenchen x Worn & Wound Chronomaster Valjoux 72 was a 20-piece collaboration announced in December 2022. Its defining feature was a hand-wound, old-stock Valjoux 72 chronograph movement that Nivada Grenchen serviced and restored. The original $6,900 sale was scheduled for December 8, 2022; that launch has passed, and current availability is not established.
What was the Nivada Grenchen x Worn & Wound Chronomaster Valjoux 72?
It was a limited Chronomaster made through a collaboration between Swiss watchmaker Nivada Grenchen and watch publication Worn & Wound. Worn & Wound announced the watch on December 7, 2022, with the sale set to begin the following day at 12 p.m. Eastern. The launch plan called for the first ten watches to ship in January 2023 and the remaining ten in March 2023. These were the original release terms, not a current sales schedule. Worn & Wound’s announcement and Hodinkee’s launch coverage reported the limited release and its price.
How many were made, and what was the original price?
The edition was limited to 20 watches, offered at an original price of $6,900 each. Worn & Wound said the run was constrained by the number of Valjoux 72 movements available. Nivada Grenchen serviced and restored the old-stock calibers, and the announcement described them as warrantied. The announcement does not establish the terms or duration of that warranty.
What movement does it use?
The watch uses a hand-wound Valjoux 72 chronograph caliber. According to Worn & Wound, it runs at 18,000 beats per hour and uses a column wheel and lateral clutch. Its three-register layout displays running seconds, elapsed minutes, and elapsed hours. The launch article gives the caliber’s production period as 1918 to 1974; its description of the movement as historically significant is the publisher’s characterization.

Because the movements were old stock, their condition and service history are central to understanding this edition: Nivada Grenchen’s stated work was to service and restore them before use. That does not make the movement new or establish that every component was replaced.
What are the case and accessory details?

Can you buy it new today?
The original limited sale took place in December 2022, and no current stock or active resale listing is established here. Treat it as a historical release unless a seller can verify a specific watch is currently available. Nivada Grenchen’s current Chronomaster collection and manufacturer retrospective material provide broader brand context, but do not confirm that this exact Worn & Wound edition is for sale.
For a prospective pre-owned purchase, verify the individual watch’s serial or edition number, the condition and service documentation for its vintage movement, and whether the original bracelet, strap, and numbered print are included. Those checks concern a particular listing; they do not imply that one is currently available.

How is this different from the Datomaster VK64 announced alongside it?
Worn & Wound also announced a separate Datomaster VK64 around the same time, but it is not another version of this Valjoux 72 Chronomaster. The edition covered here is specifically the 20-piece watch with the serviced vintage Valjoux 72 movement. The two models should not be conflated based on their shared launch context.
