The NOMOS Club 701.1 is the current reintroduction of the original Club 701, a compact, hand-wound watch whose design dates to 2007. The current model keeps the 36 mm format but is not an unchanged reissue: its dial and luminous details were updated, and NOMOS now specifies a DUW 4001 movement, 44.3 mm lug-to-lug length and 10 atm water resistance.

How the 701.1 relates to the original Club 701

Watch publication Fratello reports that NOMOS introduced the Club 701 in 2007, discontinued it in 2017, and brought it back as the updated 701.1 in 2023 after customers continued asking for the original design. That history and the comparison of design details come from Fratello; NOMOS’s current product page identifies the watch now on sale as Club Ref. 701.1.

The 2023 return preserves the model’s recognizable character, but Fratello describes changes to the dial layout and numerals, luminous treatment, hands, small-seconds markings and logo. It is therefore more accurate to think of the 701.1 as a reintroduction with revisions than as a completely unchanged 2007 watch. Fratello’s 2023 account of the reintroduction

What the dimensions mean for fit

A 36.0 mm diameter makes the 701.1 a compact option by contemporary sport-watch standards. Diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears: the 44.3 mm lug-to-lug measurement gives a useful sense of its span across the wrist, while the 8.0 mm height indicates a relatively slim case profile. If fit is a priority, compare that lug-to-lug figure with a watch you already find comfortable; wrist shape and strap fit also affect how the case sits.

The official strap width is 18 mm. Replacement straps should be sized for that lug width, but width alone does not guarantee fit: check the attachment, taper, length and material before ordering. The supplied strap is brown shell cordovan with red stitching, a detail that echoes the red accents on the hands.

Movement: DUW 4001, not Alpha, on the current model

NOMOS currently lists the 701.1 with its manually wound DUW 4001 caliber. The brand specifies up to 53 hours of power reserve, so the watch will need winding sooner than a full 72-hour interval if left off the wrist continuously. NOMOS’s product copy describes winding it once every two days; that is manufacturer guidance, not an independent precision or endurance test.

Fratello’s 2023 article creates a specification conflict: its historical discussion associates the original 701 with an Alpha movement, while its later table lists Alpha and a 43-hour reserve for the 701.1. For the watch currently specified by NOMOS, the relevant figures are DUW 4001 and up to 53 hours. Do not treat the publication’s table as the current manufacturer specification.

Swimming and water resistance

NOMOS rates the 701.1 at 10 atm and explicitly describes it as suitable for swimming. That is the scope of the manufacturer’s guidance; it is not a claim that the watch is appropriate for diving, nor does the published rating establish the results of independent water testing.

Price and regional storefronts

Price depends on the regional NOMOS storefront. When checked, the EUR product page displayed €1,380 and the UK storefront displayed £1,380; these are regional listed prices, not a universal price or a guarantee of the current checkout total. Why reported measurements differ

Fratello reports the original 701 as 36 mm across, 8.2 mm thick and 47.5 mm lug-to-lug. The same article’s specification table also assigns 47.5 mm lug-to-lug to the 701.1, alongside the Alpha movement and 43-hour reserve. NOMOS’s current page instead gives the 701.1 a 44.3 mm lug-to-lug length, 8.0 mm height and DUW 4001 with up to 53 hours. Because the sources conflict on current-model details, use NOMOS’s current specifications when assessing the 701.1 for purchase; the 47.5 mm figure should be understood as Fratello’s report, not the current official dimension.
