NOMOS Glashütte has released two Metro models with ice-blue dials, but only one of them carries the new hand-wound caliber DUW 4701. The Metro date power reserve ice blue, reference 1121, is the model that introduces the movement. The larger Metro neomatik 41 Update, reference 1166, gets the new dial color and keeps the automatic DUW 6101. Keeping those two watches apart is the key to understanding this launch.
What NOMOS changed, model by model
The release is easiest to read as two separate updates that happen to share a color. The first is a new dial color on two Metro references. The second is a new movement, but only in one of them.
| Model | Reference | Movement | Winding | Diameter and thickness | Date display | Strap |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metro date power reserve ice blue | 1121 (shown as 1121.SB in NOMOS’s US product listing) | DUW 4701 (new) | Hand-wound | 37 mm diameter; 8 mm case height | Quick-set date with power-reserve display | Black Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan |
| Metro neomatik 41 Update ice blue | 1166 | DUW 6101 (existing) | Automatic | 40.5 mm diameter; 9.1 mm case thickness | Ring date showing the full month | Gray textile |
The table lists the specifications NOMOS publishes for each model. Both figures and strap materials come from the manufacturer’s release and product listing, not from independent measurement.
The Metro date power reserve ice blue (ref. 1121)
This is the watch behind the headline. At 37 mm, it is the smaller of the two ice-blue Metros, and it is the only one that uses the new DUW 4701. Its date and power-reserve indication make it the more functional of the pair in the sense of showing how much energy remains in the mainspring, while the automatic model concentrates on a larger date ring.

Hand-wound, not automatic
The DUW 4701 is hand-wound. You wind the crown to tension the mainspring, and there is no rotor. Anyone choosing between the two ice-blue Metros should treat this as a daily-handling difference: the 1121 needs winding, while the 1166 is designed to run from wrist motion.
Dial and case
NOMOS describes the ice-blue dial as electroplated and lacquered with a metallic finish. On this hand-wound model, the power-reserve display uses white, light blue, and teal. The case is polished stainless steel with a domed sapphire crystal and 5 atm water resistance. The strap is black Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan.

The Metro neomatik 41 Update ice blue (ref. 1166)
The automatic model is the larger of the two at 40.5 mm, and NOMOS lists its case thickness at 9.1 mm. It keeps the DUW 6101 caliber rather than receiving the new movement. Its distinguishing display is a ring date. NOMOS says the full month is shown on a circumferential scale, with the current date framed by two teal markers. The strap is gray textile.
If you want the color without the new caliber, this is the reference that matches the release’s stated scope. The new movement is not part of this model.

The DUW 4701 caliber
DUW 4701 is a new hand-wound caliber for watches with a date and power-reserve indicator. NOMOS publishes the following specifications for it:
- Power reserve: up to 52 hours.
- Date: quick-set.
- Jewels: 23, according to the source page for the movement.
- Movement height: 2.8 mm.
- Movement diameter: 14¼ lignes (32.1 mm), per the same source page.
Construction and finishing
NOMOS describes a newly designed three-quarter plate, sunburst finishing, a skeletonized balance cock, and the brand’s own swing system. The swing system is not new to the Metro line. NOMOS says the original Metro date power reserve, designed by Mark Braun and introduced in 2014, was the debut of that system.

Where else the caliber will appear
The movement update is not limited to the ice-blue dial. NOMOS says the DUW 4701 will also be fitted to the white silver-plated Metro date power reserve. Buyers of that version should check the movement listed in its own product specifications, since this article covers only the ice-blue reference.

Choose the 1121 if the new caliber matters to you and you are comfortable winding by hand. Its 52-hour power-reserve display and smaller 37 mm case are the features the release emphasizes. Choose the 1166 if you prefer automatic winding, a larger case, and a ring date that shows the whole month at a glance, and you do not need the DUW 4701 specifically.

Price, availability, and what is not yet established
A regional NOMOS product page showed EUR 3,500 for the 1121 at the time of the search that surfaced it. That is a region-specific listed price, not a global one. Prices may differ by market, currency, and tax treatment, and stock varies by retailer. Check the NOMOS site’s retailer-finding page for your country before treating the figure as current.
The available material is launch coverage and manufacturer specifications. It does not establish how the DUW 4701 performs over time, how its power reserve behaves under real wear, or how owners rate it. Worn & Wound published a report on the release dated October 8, 2026, which supplies independent publication context, but the technical figures above come from NOMOS.
NOMOS frames the release around its manufacturing approach. In its words: “Only a few manufacturers worldwide are capable of producing their own escapement in series.” That is the company’s own claim, and it is presented here as such.
