The better fit depends on the shape, dial numerals, and winding routine you prefer—not on one being objectively superior.
What the video review compares
The comparison focuses on two gold versions of NOMOS’s restrained dress-watch designs. The reviewed Tangente references are 161, 162, and 163; the Ludwig references are 211 and 212. Those reference numbers cover different dial or hand configurations, so check the exact suffix and configuration when comparing listings. The measurements below describe the reviewed 35 mm watches, not every size or configuration in either collection. Monochrome’s review, dated April 3, 2026, supplies the specifications and reviewer observations; the video review description frames the contrast as “Sharp Lines versus Soft Curves.”
How the cases differ on the wrist
Both watches have a 35 mm case diameter, but diameter alone does not describe their wrist presence. The Tangente is 6.9 mm thick with a 43.0 mm lug-to-lug measurement. The Ludwig is thinner at 6.3 mm but spans 45.0 mm lug to lug. In other words, the Ludwig is the slimmer watch by thickness, while the Tangente is shorter from lug tip to lug tip.
Monochrome reviewer Robin Nooy describes the Tangente’s case as sharply angular, with straight lugs and a flatter profile. The Ludwig takes a softer, bowl-shaped form with sloping lugs. These are useful distinctions if you prefer crisp geometry or flowing curves, but actual fit also depends on wrist shape and personal comfort; the review’s observations are not a substitute for trying one on.

Arabic numerals or Roman numerals?
The Tangente combines Arabic numerals with baton markers, giving its dial a more contemporary, graphic character. The Ludwig uses Roman numerals and a minute track, reinforcing its more traditional appearance. Both have small seconds. The choice is largely aesthetic: consider which numeral style you find easier to read at a glance and which better suits the watch’s intended formality.
Automatic convenience or hand-winding?
The movement is a practical difference as well as a technical one. The Tangente Gold neomatik uses the DUW 3001 automatic movement, with a stated 43-hour power reserve. The Ludwig uses the DUW 4001 hand-wound movement and has a stated 53-hour reserve. With the Tangente, normal wrist movement powers the watch; with the Ludwig, winding is part of the regular routine. The longer stated reserve on the Ludwig does not make it automatic, and the shorter reserve on the Tangente does not make it hand-wound.

NOMOS says its gold-watch cases are solid 18-karat gold and carry the St. Bernard’s head hallmark. The manufacturer’s US gold collection page lists related configurations; case dimensions and details can vary across the wider collections, so confirm the specific reference rather than assuming every gold Tangente or Ludwig matches these reviewed examples.
Price depends on market and date
The sources show different prices in different contexts, not a single timeless global price. On April 3, 2026, Monochrome listed the reviewed Tangente at EUR 9,800 and the Ludwig at EUR 8,700. NOMOS’s US collection page displayed USD 14,800 for Tangente gold neomatik and USD 14,000 for Ludwig gold when checked on October 8, 2026. These are source- and market-specific figures; they should not be treated as directly interchangeable or as a guarantee of a retailer’s current price or stock.

Which one suits your preferences?
- Choose the Tangente’s design direction if you favor straight lugs, a flatter and more angular case, Arabic numerals, and an automatic movement.
- Choose the Ludwig’s design direction if you prefer sloping lugs, a softer rounded case, Roman numerals, and the ritual of winding by hand.
- Compare the watches on your wrist if fit is the deciding factor: the Tangente is thicker, while the Ludwig is longer lug to lug despite sharing its 35 mm diameter.
- Check the exact reference and local listing before buying. Dial and hand configurations, regional listings, prices, and availability can differ.
The reviewed specifications establish the design and movement trade-offs, but do not establish long-term reliability, service costs, resale value, or independent wear-test results.
