The Habring² Chrono-Felix Top-Second replaces the usual running-seconds subdial with a small mechanical signal: two blades rotate beneath the dial and pass a window at 9 o’clock every 2.5 seconds. It is still a hand-wound monopusher chronograph, with its 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. “Top-Second” is a visual indication that the watch is running—not an electronic alert.
What is the Habring² Chrono-Felix Top-Second?
It is a variant of Habring²’s Chrono-Felix that combines a manually wound chronograph with an unusual running-seconds display. Instead of a conventional small-seconds register at 9 o’clock, the Top-Second shows a recurring flash in a small aperture. The 30-minute chronograph counter remains at 3 o’clock. Habring² describes the layout as a way to keep an indication that the watch is running while avoiding the numerals and visual clutter of a traditional seconds subdial. Habring²’s 2023 Uhrkraft feature explains the model and its display.
How does the Top-Second complication work?
A two-bladed propeller beneath the dial turns once every five seconds. Each blade passes the aperture in turn, so the viewer sees a signal every 2.5 seconds. The motion is mechanically driven by the watch’s A11FC calibre; there is no electronic or electrical indicator involved.
In the 2023 manufacturer-magazine interview, Richard Habring described the effect as a signal that “flashes a signal every 2.5 seconds in a small window at 9 o’clock.” Maria Habring explained the timing: “Every 5 seconds, the entire propeller rotates; however, because of the two blades, the seconds signal flashes every 2.5 seconds on the dial at 9 o’clock.”

What movement is in the Chrono-Felix Top-Second?
The Top-Second uses the manually wound A11FC monopusher chronograph movement. A monopusher operates the chronograph through a single pusher rather than separate start/stop and reset pushers. The chronograph records elapsed time on a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock; the propeller display at 9 o’clock serves as the running-seconds indication.
Habring²’s Chrono-Felix family page gives family-level figures of 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz) and 48 hours of power reserve, alongside a 38.5 mm stainless-steel case and water resistance equivalent to 30 metres. The page cautions that pictured versions may have additional functions, so those images should not be read as a complete specification of every Chrono-Felix variant. For the Top-Second specifically, SJX’s June 2023 listing identifies the A11FC and reports a 38.5 mm diameter, 11 mm height, sapphire crystal, 30 m water resistance, 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz), and a 48-hour reserve. It also lists a leather strap with pin buckle; dial and strap configuration should be confirmed for the individual watch.

How is it different from a regular Chrono-Felix?
| Feature | Chrono-Felix Top-Second | Conventional Chrono-Felix |
|---|---|---|
| Running-seconds display | Two-bladed propeller signals through an aperture at 9 o’clock every 2.5 seconds, as described by Habring² in 2023. | Small-seconds display at 9 o’clock, as described on Habring²’s family page and in Fratello’s 2018 coverage. |
| Chronograph format | Manually wound monopusher chronograph; 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, according to the 2023 Habring² and SJX descriptions. | Monopusher chronograph; Fratello’s 2018 article covers the original A11C-H1 version. |
| Movement reference | A11FC, according to SJX’s 2023 model listing. | A11C-H1 in Fratello’s 2018 article; this is not the Top-Second movement reference. |
The Top-Second’s indicator revives a complication associated in the 2023 Habring² feature and SJX coverage with Mondia in the 1960s. Those accounts say Mondia was later acquired by Zenith and that the complication largely disappeared. Habring² also calls the Top-Second a technically smaller or lighter relative of its Foudroyante Felix. They are distinct models and complications: the Top-Second has the periodic signal described above, not the Foudroyante’s display.
