Opera Godfather Edition is a 47 mm mechanical music box and triple-axis tourbillon watch, not simply a conventional timepiece with a film-themed dial. In Monochrome Watches’ 2018 hands-on review, its DLC-titanium and pink-gold case housed the hand-wound JCFM02, with a 72-hour power reserve and an on-demand performance of the Godfather theme. Monochrome reported a launch-era price of CHF 300,000 and an 18-piece edition. Those figures describe that original reference; later Opera Godfather models have different specifications and prices.
What makes the Opera Godfather Edition unusual?
The watch combines timekeeping with a miniature mechanical music box. Activate the mechanism and the Godfather theme plays while the visible movement module rotates around the dial. A triple-axis tourbillon adds another moving spectacle. The result is a complicated, theatrical object whose appeal is as much about watching and hearing its mechanism as reading the time.

Xavier Markl, writing for Monochrome Watches in 2018, described the action as “surprising and captivating.” The review also links a video with its hands-on coverage, which can help convey the movement in motion. A video is useful evidence of the mechanism’s presentation, but it does not establish that a later version behaves identically or that a reviewer personally tested every reference.
How does the music-box mechanism work?
The original JCFM02 edition
Monochrome’s account of the 2018 JCFM02 describes a separate barrel driving the music box. Two pinned cylinders act on a pair of steel combs; the reviewer says 100 pins are inserted by hand. During playback, the module rotates 120 degrees around the dial. These details apply to the original configuration discussed in that review and should not be assumed to describe later calibres.

The later JCFM04 edition
Jacob & Co.’s official Japanese page for the rose-gold OP110.40.AG.AA.ABALA says two tilted cylinders play the theme for about 30 seconds. On activation, visible movement components rotate, while a differential turns the off-center hour-and-minute dial in the opposite direction so it remains upright. The same page describes a triple-axis flying tourbillon supported from below, without an upper bridge.
Original edition specifications
These are the specifications Monochrome lists for the original edition it reviewed in 2018. Its specification block gives 650 parts, while the article text separately says 664. Because the source is internally inconsistent, the component count is not resolved here.

How the original differs from later editions
“Opera Godfather Edition” covers distinct watches, not one unchanging specification. The original JCFM02 reviewed by Monochrome, Jacob & Co.’s later rose-gold JCFM04 reference, and the 50th Anniversary series should be kept separate.
| Version | Case and movement | Power reserve | Edition size | Price context |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original edition reviewed in 2018 by Monochrome | 47 mm by 20 mm; DLC titanium and pink gold; hand-wound JCFM02 | 72 hours | 18 pieces | CHF 300,000 reported in the 2018 article as the launch-era price |
| Rose-gold OP110.40.AG.AA.ABALA on Jacob & Co.’s Japanese page | 49 mm by 20 mm; hand-wound JCFM04 | Approximately 50 hours | 36 pieces | ¥83,490,000 including Japanese tax; the official page says the price may change |
| 50th Anniversary model described by the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry in 2022 | Distinct anniversary series; its cited article highlights 13 film scenes and the music-box mechanism, but does not state a comparable case size or calibre | Not stated by the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (2022) | 50 pieces | Not stated by the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (2022) |
The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry’s 2022 account also describes the anniversary model’s off-center dial rotating opposite to the movement so it stays upright while the mechanism spins. This is a separate configuration; it does not change the specifications of the original 18-piece watch.
Jacob & Co. Opera Godfather Edition price and availability
For the original reference, the specific price documented here is CHF 300,000, reported by Monochrome Watches in 2018. It is historical launch-era pricing, not a verified current asking price. The sources do not establish whether the original reference is currently available or what it sells for on the secondary market.
Jacob & Co.’s official Japanese product page lists ¥83,490,000 including tax for the different rose-gold OP110.40.AG.AA.ABALA and warns that the price may change. This is a Japan-market listed price for that later reference, not a current global price for the original. The two figures are from different dates and markets, so they should not be treated as directly comparable offers.
Video: seeing the mechanism in action
Monochrome’s 2018 review includes a linked video. CRM Jewelers’ verified YouTube channel also published an early-version video on 28 November 2017. Its description identifies a 47 mm watch, 650 moving parts, and a 72-hour reserve; those are details attributed to that early-video description, not specifications for later models. The videos can show the music-box action and rotating module more clearly than still photographs, but they are not a substitute for reference-specific specifications.
