Journe group divided across several lots; the second brings vintage and modern watches together in a catalogue Hodinkee reports contains 157 lots.
When are the auctions, and how do they differ?
| Auction | Schedule and format | Location and preview | Scale |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marteau & Co., The Encore | Timed auction, October 8–15, 2026, according to Marteau’s official calendar. | Marteau is headquartered in Geneva and available by appointment; confirm access and bidding details with the auction house. | Hodinkee describes it as a curated sale of around 40 watches. |
| Antiquorum, Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces – New York | Live auction, Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 11 a.m., according to Antiquorum’s sale page. | Public preview at The Ned Nomad New York on October 16–17; Antiquorum also lists preview dates October 7–8 at its Hong Kong office. | Hodinkee reports a 157-lot catalogue and characterizes this as Antiquorum’s first live New York sale in more than a decade. |
Antiquorum’s New York preview is the more straightforward in-person opportunity for visitors in the city. Marteau’s calendar separately lists The Blueprint for October 30–November 6; it is a different sale, not a continuation of The Encore.
What stands out in Marteau’s The Encore?
F.P. Journe steel set number 37
Hodinkee identifies the headline group as F.P. Journe steel set number 37: five 38mm watches with gold dials—a Tourbillon, Resonance, Octa Calendrier, Reserve de Marche and Chronometre Souverain—plus a box. The watches are divided among separate lots; they are not being offered as a single set. Hodinkee says this is the first time set number 37 has appeared at auction. The sale’s official calendar provides the event listing; consult Marteau’s live catalogue for lot assignments and current descriptions.
Independent watchmakers and smaller-production pieces
Hodinkee’s preview also highlights Sylvain Pinaud’s rose-gold Piece Unique Origine, estimated at CHF 80,000–160,000, and Marco Lang’s Zweigesicht-1, estimated at CHF 200,000–400,000. Those are catalogue estimates reported by Hodinkee, not realized prices or independent valuations.

Other watches named in the preview include Yosuke Sekiguchi’s unique Primevere, Ludovic Ballouard’s Half Time, a Habring2 Five Minute Repeater, a J.N. Shapiro, Michiel Holthinrich’s early Ornament, and two Kurono Tokyo watches. Reuben Schoots and Ondrej Berkus pieces are characterized by Hodinkee as more affordable relative to the other featured lots; that comparison does not establish that they are inexpensive, and buyers should check the estimates in the current catalogue.
What are the notable lots in Antiquorum’s New York sale?
Top lots listed by Antiquorum
Antiquorum’s sale page names an F.P. Journe reference Q Octa Calendrier (lot 157), estimated at USD 400,000–800,000, and a Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 5711/1R-001 (lot 23), estimated at USD 200,000–400,000. These are estimates, not sale results. Check the live catalogue for current lot descriptions, estimates and conditions.
Vintage rarities and contemporary watches
Hodinkee’s preview adds a Comex Submariner; a Tiffany-signed 14k yellow-gold Rolex Daytona reference 6241; a Patek Philippe reference 96; two special-order Cartier Crash watches; a Bueche-Girod; modern Rolex and other contemporary watches; and several F.P. Journe pieces. Hodinkee reports estimates of USD 400,000–600,000 for each Crash, USD 200,000–400,000 for a Vacheron Constantin reference 30020, and starting bids of USD 500,000 for an F.P. Journe Vagabondage II and USD 800,000 for a Tourbillon Vertical Black Series. Verify the live catalogue before relying on those figures or descriptions; estimates and starting bids are different kinds of information.
The qualification on Patek Philippe reference 96
Hodinkee reports that Antiquorum and a study by Eric Tortella attribute features of the reference 96 to an early production run and identify it as a first-year 1932 example. The same account says the archive does not show the actual dial configuration. The attribution therefore should not be read as proof of that configuration or as establishing that the watch is definitively unique.

How should bidders inspect lots and understand the terms?
Antiquorum says its previews are open to the public and encourages prospective buyers to view and examine lots before bidding. For its New York sale, the house describes interactive and absentee bidding, payment due within seven days, a traditional-auction buyer’s premium schedule, and possible import taxes and customs charges for lots from outside the United States. Read the current sale conditions and each lot’s shipping and tax notices; an estimate should not be treated as an all-in cost.
- Compare the catalogue description with the watch in person where possible, and ask the auction house about condition, documentation and provenance.
- For the reference 96, keep the stated archival limitation in view when assessing claims about the dial.
- A watchmaker’s loupe may help with close visual inspection at a preview, but it cannot replace an expert assessment or a condition report.
- Before bidding, check the applicable premium, payment deadline, shipping arrangements and any tax or customs charges for the specific lot.
Do these auctions show where watch prices are heading?
No market-wide conclusion follows from these catalogues. The published figures here are estimates, starting bids and selected highlights, not representative sale results or evidence of a reliable upward or downward trend. Hodinkee discusses volatility and uncertainty and recalls a prior full Journe steel set sale at around USD 3 million; that is the author’s recollection, not a verified market statistic or a forecast.

Hodinkee author Mark Kauzlarich wrote on October 6, 2026: “You should only pay what a watch feels like it’s worth to you, not what you think the market has convinced itself of in the moment.” That is his opinion, not guidance from either auction house.
