Buy the Seamaster Diver 300M if you want OMEGA’s 42 mm refreshed range with a choice of mesh or rubber strap and the Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 8806. Buy the Rolex Submariner if you want the 41 mm, no-date reference 124060 with its black ceramic bezel and Oyster bracelet. Neither watch is objectively better on the published specifications. Both makers present their models as 300 m dive watches, so the decision turns on fit, date function, looks, local price and where you can get the watch serviced.
Compare exact references, not model names
“Seamaster Diver 300M” and “Submariner” each cover several references, so a fair comparison needs specific models on both sides. This article compares two:
- OMEGA: the refreshed Seamaster Diver 300M range in 42 mm, introduced in OMEGA’s announcement of November 21, 2024. That announcement describes domed sapphire crystal and a choice of mesh bracelet or rubber strap.
- Rolex: the Submariner reference 124060, a 41 mm, no-date model in Oystersteel, as described on Rolex’s product page.
Rolex’s US listing also includes Submariner Date models in steel and in gold. The 124060 specifications below do not carry over to those references, so check the exact reference number before comparing any Submariner with a Seamaster.

The movement and precision figures are manufacturer statements. They are not results from an independent comparative test, and neither source ranks one watch above the other.
Case size and wrist fit
The difference between 42 mm and 41 mm is one millimetre, and that difference alone does not tell you which watch will sit better. Wrist circumference, case thickness, lug shape and how far the lugs overhang the wrist all change how a watch wears. A 42 mm watch with short lugs can feel smaller than a 41 mm watch with long ones.

- Model 212.30.44.52.01.001
Try both on your own wrist before deciding, ideally on the bracelet or strap you would actually wear. If you cannot try them in person, compare the lug-to-lug measurement and thickness published by the retailer you plan to buy from.
Date function
The 124060 has no date window, so the dial stays clean and symmetrical. If a date display matters to you, the 124060 is not the right reference. Rolex’s US listing includes steel Submariner Date configurations at $11,350 and $11,900 USD, but that listing does not tell you which Submariner Date reference each price belongs to, so confirm the reference before comparing prices.

- Omega Seamaster Automatic Black Dial Men's Watch 210.32.42.20.01.001
OMEGA’s announcement does not say whether each Diver 300M in the 2024 range has a date. Confirm this for the exact reference you are considering.
Design, bracelet and strap
The OMEGA range keeps the collection’s helium escape valve and the wave-dial lineage that OMEGA says dates back to 1993, when it released the first Seamaster Diver 300M. The mesh bracelet and rubber strap give you two clearly different looks from the same case.

- Model 210.90.42.20.01.001
The Rolex 124060 is built around a single, consistent look: black dial, black ceramic bezel insert and an Oyster bracelet with Glidelock extension, which lets you adjust bracelet length without tools.

Rolex’s US listing shows $10,050 USD for the steel no-date Submariner 124060. That is a US list price on the day Rolex’s page was checked, and it is not a stock level, a transaction price or a secondary-market value. Prices change and vary by country.

OMEGA’s official press material reviewed for this article gives no regional list price for the 2024 Diver 300M range. That means no verified price gap exists between the two watches. Check OMEGA’s pricing in your own market, or ask an authorized OMEGA retailer, before you assume either watch is cheaper.
Authorized service and water resistance
Rolex states on its product page: “Only official Rolex retailers are allowed to sell and maintain a Rolex watch.” Rolex says those retailers have the skills, technical know-how and special equipment for authenticity and service. Buy and service the 124060 through an official Rolex retailer for that reason.
OMEGA’s care manual recommends: “We recommend that you have the water resistance of your watch tested once a year by an authorised OMEGA service centre.” This is OMEGA’s care recommendation, not an independent standard. If you own either watch, a yearly check at an authorized service centre is the simplest way to confirm the seals still meet the rating.
Which one fits your priorities
Choose the Seamaster Diver 300M if
- You prefer the 42 mm case and want a choice between mesh and rubber.
- You want a Master Chronometer-certified movement (calibre 8806) and the collection’s wave-dial heritage.
- You are buying from an OMEGA boutique or authorized retailer and can confirm the exact reference and price.
Choose the Submariner 124060 if
- You want a 41 mm, no-date dive watch with a black ceramic bezel and a single, consistent look.
- You prefer an Oyster bracelet with Glidelock extension and calibre 3230 with Rolex’s stated power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
- You are comfortable paying the US list price of $10,050 USD, or the equivalent in your market, through an official Rolex retailer.
If you need a date display, neither the 124060 nor its listed Submariner siblings should be assumed to match the Diver 300M’s specifications. Compare the exact references on both sides before deciding.
