The Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon ALINGHI, reference 311.92.44.30.01.002, is a 44.25 mm ceramic chronograph whose sailing-team details are more than a logo on the dial: red tactical timing marks the four- and five-minute intervals, and an ALINGHI disc rotates while the chronograph runs. It is a special edition, not a numbered limited edition. Robert-Jan Broer’s September 2020 hands-on review found the red accents, ceramic case and movement decoration compelling, while noting that the team branding may be a drawback if you have no interest in ALINGHI or sailing.
What makes this Speedmaster an ALINGHI edition?
Omega announced the watch on July 28, 2020, as a collaboration with Swiss sailing team ALINGHI. The idea is to connect the Dark Side of the Moon ceramic Speedmaster line with the speed of the team’s boats. Omega’s launch announcement describes the Speedmaster choice in those terms, rather than presenting the watch as a sailing instrument or dive watch. Omega and ALINGHI celebrate their partnership with a brand new Speedmaster.

The references to the team are integrated into several parts of the design: an ALINGHI logo appears in red on the start/stop pusher, a rotating logo disc sits at six o’clock, and red accents call out the four- and five-minute tactical timing on the three-o’clock register. The movement’s laser-ablated honeycomb and carbon patterns were inspired by the carbon hull of ALINGHI’s TF35 catamaran.
How does the watch wear and look?
The case measures 44.25 mm across and is made from black zirconium oxide ceramic. Sapphire crystal protects the front, and a display back reveals the movement. Its partially openworked black dial, red details and perforated black-and-red rubber strap give it a more overtly technical appearance than a conventional Speedmaster Professional.

In his hands-on review, Robert-Jan Broer said the watch wore a little smaller than its nominal diameter suggested. That is his wrist impression, not a measured fit result that will apply to every wearer. He particularly liked the ceramic case, movement decoration and red accents. He also observed that the ALINGHI branding may mean less to a buyer without an interest in the team or sailing. Fratello Watches’ hands-on Omega Speedmaster Alinghi review.
Published thickness figures do not agree: Fratello’s 2020 specification table gives 12 mm, while Hodinkee reports 13.80 mm. Without a settled measurement, it is better not to treat either figure as definitive. Hodinkee’s 2020 introduction.
What are the movement and chronograph details?
The watch uses hand-wound Omega Calibre 1865, based on Calibre 1861. The 2020 specifications list a 48-hour power reserve and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. Hodinkee also describes a cam-and-lever chronograph switching system and lists 19 jewels. The movement’s decoration is a visual nod to the TF35’s carbon construction, not a claim that the watch shares the boat’s materials.

It displays the time and includes a chronograph and tachymeter scale. The sailing-specific timing accents make the three-o’clock register the most distinctive functional detail: red highlights identify the four- and five-minute marks associated with tactical timing. At six o’clock, the ALINGHI logo disc rotates when the chronograph is running.
Is it a sailing watch, and can you swim with it?
The collaboration supplies sailing context and tactical timing cues, but the watch remains a Speedmaster chronograph with 50 m / 5 bar water resistance. That rating does not make it a dive watch. The sources identify no dive-specific design or certification for this model, so it should not be chosen as a substitute for a purpose-built diving watch.
Broer noted that some readers might have expected a Seamaster for a sailing partnership. Omega’s stated rationale was the speed of ALINGHI’s boats, which explains the Speedmaster connection; it does not change the watch’s water-resistance rating or establish it as a tool for every on-water activity.

Is the Omega Speedmaster ALINGHI limited?
No. Fratello and Hodinkee describe the 311.92.44.30.01.002 as a special edition, not a limited edition. Fratello’s 2020 review says it has no unique edition number beyond its individual watch serial. The watch’s edition status does not establish current catalog availability or stock.
What did it cost at launch?
Prices reported in 2020 differ by market and tax treatment. They are historical launch-era figures, not current quotes.

Who is this Speedmaster for?
The ALINGHI edition makes most sense for someone who wants a boldly styled ceramic Speedmaster and values the partnership details: red tactical timing, a moving team-logo disc and the TF35-inspired movement decoration. If those features feel like unnecessary branding, the collaboration’s signature elements may be less of a draw than the watch’s core chronograph design. Broer’s review frames that preference as personal rather than universal.
For the technical essentials, the documented specification is a 44.25 mm black ceramic case, hand-wound Calibre 1865, 48-hour reserve and 50 m water resistance. Its thickness remains disputed between the cited 2020 sources, and the historical launch prices should not be used as present-day pricing.
