Its appeal rests on the link between the Apollo 13 story, the animated display and a distinctive silver-and-blue Speedmaster design.
Why OMEGA made a Snoopy Speedmaster
OMEGA received NASA astronauts’ Silver Snoopy Award in 1970 for contributions to space exploration and the Speedmaster’s support during the Apollo 13 rescue. The 2020 watch commemorates the award’s 50th anniversary, rather than being a new version of the separate 2015 Silver Snoopy edition. OMEGA describes the Speedmaster as providing vital support during the rescue in its October 2020 announcement.
Time+Tide’s 2020 account gives the story a specific timing detail: after an oxygen-tank explosion damaged Apollo 13’s Service Module, the crew used a Speedmaster to time a critical 14-second rocket burn. That detail is attributed to the publication’s account, rather than presented as a specification of the commemorative watch. The story gives Snoopy a meaningful place on the watch, but its practical interest lies in how OMEGA translated that history into the dial, caseback and movement.
What the dial and case look like
The 42 mm stainless-steel case follows the fourth-generation Speedmaster style. Up front, the silver dial pairs blue PVD hands and hour markers with three blue subdials: a Snoopy silver medallion appears on the subdial at 9 o’clock, while the other two complete the chronograph layout. OMEGA specifies the dial as laser-engraved Ag925; Time+Tide describes the silver-and-blue contrast as a “panda” arrangement.

A blue ceramic bezel carries a white-enamel tachymeter scale and the Speedmaster’s “Dot over Ninety” detail. Time+Tide describes the case as asymmetrical, with the crown and pushers somewhat recessed for protection, and reports a thickness of 14.5 mm. Those are observations and measurements from that 2020 article, not a personal fit assessment.
The animated Snoopy caseback
The sapphire caseback is the model’s most unusual feature. OMEGA describes the chronograph seconds hand as activating Snoopy’s journey around a lunar surface rendered on the crystal. A rotating Earth disc moves once per minute in time with the small-seconds hand. Time+Tide describes Snoopy as being carried by a transparent mechanical hand.

This is an animation driven by the watch’s movement, not a separate electronic display. The watch’s historical theme therefore appears on both sides: the dial carries the Snoopy medallion, while the reverse turns the caseback into a moving scene. The mechanism is the clearest reason this edition feels distinct from a standard Speedmaster Professional, though the available descriptions do not establish how it looks or feels in person.
Strap and movement
The blue nylon fabric strap is embossed on its lining with the Apollo 13 trajectory. Time+Tide describes it as navy textile secured with a pin buckle, a restrained choice that keeps the mission reference close to the wrist rather than adding another prominent dial detail.
Inside is OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, a hand-wound movement. OMEGA identifies the calibre as METAS Master Chronometer certified and highlights its anti-magnetic technology. Time+Tide reports a stated accuracy of 0 to +5 seconds per day, resistance to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss and a 50-hour power reserve. Those performance figures are reported by that publication; they are not results of testing for this article.
