Verdict: The Oriosa Superautomatic is an intriguing vintage watch for its snowflake-style hour hand and worn, tool-watch look, but the available account is a review of one serviced example—not a definitive assessment of the brand, the model’s history, or the reliability of other watches. Its most appealing detail is also its biggest historical question: the watch has a snowflake-style hand, but there is no verified evidence here that it predates Tudor’s 1968 Snowflake Submariner.
What this Oriosa review is based on
This is a review of the vintage Oriosa Superautomatic described by Tomas Rosputinsky in a first-person Fratello article published February 17, 2022. It is not a controlled test or a comprehensive history of Oriosa. That distinction matters: the condition, dimensions, movement, and service experience below refer to the author’s individual watch, not every Superautomatic or every watch bearing the Oriosa name.
Brand information can be difficult to find. A commenter, Max Burton, put that frustration plainly in a March 6, 2024 comment on the article: “I can’t seem to find much out about the brand.” That is one reader’s observation, not a survey of collectors or evidence that no further records exist.
How the reviewed watch looks and wears
Rosputinsky found his watch through an auction listing among two other heavily worn watches. Its appeal is less about pristine condition than the character of a well-aged object: it has a matte black dial, faded lume, a damaged bezel, and a date magnifier. He describes the minute track as visually reminiscent of Rolex reference 6538. That is an aesthetic comparison, not evidence of a connection between the brands or models.

The standout feature is the hour hand’s snowflake-like shape. Together with the dial and bezel, it gives the watch a recognizable vintage diver-inspired look. The reviewed example’s wear is part of that impression, but it is also a practical concern: faded lume and a damaged bezel may matter differently to a buyer who wants a collectible display watch than to someone seeking a daily wearer.
Size and strap
The article gives the case diameter as “35.something millimeters,” an intentionally approximate measurement of this one watch. It is not a precise factory specification. The author wore it on a soft, finely woven NATO strap and kept that strap on the watch. A woven NATO strap is a reasonable style to consider, but the article does not give the lug width or strap thickness. Measure the particular watch and check clearance before ordering.

Movement and reliability: one serviced watch
The article identifies the movement as a Felsa 4007N. Rosputinsky’s assessment was: “The Felsa 4007N movement isn’t special enough to be highlighted, but it works reliably since I got it serviced.” The qualification is essential: this is his personal experience after service, not an independent test, a reliability study, or a promise about another watch. A vintage watch’s condition and service history can differ substantially from one example to the next.
Is the Oriosa Superautomatic older than Tudor’s Snowflake Submariner?
That chronology is not established. Rosputinsky estimates his Oriosa dates to the 1960s based on its case diameter and dial style, but he says he had no valid evidence that it came before Tudor’s “Snowflake” Submariner and could not find catalogs or print advertisements verifying the Oriosa’s release date.

The Fratello article identifies Tudor’s second-generation Submariner references 7016 and 7021 as introduced in 1968, with the hand style known as “snowflake hands.” The possible earlier date for the Oriosa is the author’s guess, not verified provenance. The resemblance makes for an interesting visual comparison; it does not establish which watch came first or any design lineage.
What to check before buying a vintage Oriosa
Vintage Oriosa watches appear in marketplace and retailer listings, but a listing is not proof of authenticity, originality, or continuing availability. Etsy has an Oriosa category with vintage watch listings; two Oriosa pages at Times & Treasure were marked sold out when inspected. Availability can change, and seller descriptions about age, originality, craftsmanship, or authenticity should be treated as claims unless supported by documentation.

Assess the individual watch and the terms of the sale rather than relying on a brand-level reputation that the available material cannot establish:
- Movement and service: Ask for clear movement photographs and any service documentation. Find out when it was last serviced and whether the seller has tested its operation.
- Dial, hands, lume, bezel, and crystal: Request detailed photographs in good light. Compare the condition with the listing description and ask about damage, replacement parts, or repairs.
- Originality: Ask which parts are believed to be original and what evidence supports that assessment. Rosputinsky himself notes uncertainty about whether his watch’s crown is original.
- Fit and strap: Confirm the case dimensions and measure lug width on the actual watch. Do not infer exact measurements from the approximate size reported for another example.
- Seller protections: Check the return terms and what recourse is available if the watch’s condition or operation does not match the listing.
Who should consider the Oriosa Superautomatic?
It may suit a buyer drawn to unusual vintage design, especially the snowflake-style hand, and who is comfortable judging an individual watch’s age, condition, and service needs. It is a weaker choice for someone seeking a thoroughly documented history, a verified claim to predate Tudor’s snowflake hands, or a guaranteed level of performance based on another owner’s experience.

There is no supported market-wide Oriosa value or reliability figure in the available sources. The “under €500” wording attached to the 2022 Fratello article is not current pricing guidance. Compare the actual condition, documentation, and seller terms of watches currently offered rather than treating that old subtitle as a price benchmark.
