“Oris Hölstein Edition” refers to more than one limited-edition watch. This review compares two specific releases: the 2021 Big Crown Calibre 403, reference 01 403 7776 4083-Set, and the 2023 Aquis Calibre 400, reference 01 400 7769 4188-Set. Oris lists both as 250-piece editions with a 120-hour power reserve, but their size, water resistance, design, movement and display differ substantially. This is a specifications-based comparison, not a hands-on review.
What is the Oris Hölstein Edition?
Hölstein Editions are limited-run watches named for Hölstein, Switzerland, where Oris is based. The name does not identify one permanent model: the two official releases covered here use different Oris collections and references. Oris describes the editions as “unique mechanical watches for Oris lovers.”
The 2021 release is a 38 mm Big Crown with a grey dial and Calibre 403. The 2023 release is a 41.50 mm Aquis with a purple dial and no date, powered by Calibre 400. Oris lists each as limited to 250 pieces.

Which Hölstein Edition fits your priorities?
Choose the 2021 Big Crown for a smaller case and traditional date display
At 38 mm, the Big Crown is the smaller of the two. Its date is indicated by a central hand rather than a conventional date window, with small seconds at six o’clock. Its listed 5 bar water resistance is lower than the Aquis’s, so it is the less suitable choice if higher stated water resistance is a priority. Oris specifies a 19 mm interhorn width and supplies the watch on a leather strap.
Choose the 2023 Aquis for a dive-watch design and no-date dial
The 41.50 mm Aquis has a larger case, a ceramic minute-scale top ring, and a purple dial without a date display. Oris lists 30 bar water resistance and a stainless-steel bracelet. Its 22 mm interhorn width is wider than the Big Crown’s. Oris called it the first purple-dial, no-date Aquis when it announced the limited edition on 1 June 2023.
What do the movements and power reserves mean?
Oris lists a 120-hour power reserve for both watches—five days when fully wound, according to the manufacturer’s specifications. The movements are not identical: the 2021 Big Crown uses Calibre 403 with a central date hand and small seconds, while the 2023 Aquis uses a no-date Calibre 400. Oris describes the Calibre 400 series as highly antimagnetic and gives it a five-day reserve; those are manufacturer claims, not results of independent testing for this article.
Strap sizing and compatibility
The listed interhorn widths are 19 mm for the 2021 Big Crown and 22 mm for the 2023 Aquis. Oris lists replacement straps in those widths, and its 2023 page also lists 22 mm rubber straps as fitting options. Width alone does not establish that every aftermarket strap, end link or clasp will fit correctly. Check the attachment design and specific compatibility before buying.

Availability, warranty and buying considerations
Oris’s product pages say both references are unavailable to purchase online. That status does not establish whether either watch is currently available through a store or on the secondary market. The pages list each as a 250-piece limited edition, but edition size alone does not establish present-day availability or resale value.
Both pages list a two-year warranty and say MyOris registration can extend coverage to ten years. Warranty eligibility and terms can depend on registration and region; confirm current terms with Oris before treating the extension as a buyer benefit. Oris’s 2023 page lists a special presentation box and certificate. No price comparison is included because the official localized pages use different currencies and markets, and a like-for-like current price was not established.

Is the Oris Hölstein Edition worth buying?
There is no single answer without specifying the reference. On the published specifications, the 2023 Aquis is the more water-resistant, larger, no-date option with a bracelet; the 2021 Big Crown is smaller, has a distinctive hand-indicated date, and comes on leather. Both have a manufacturer-stated five-day power reserve and a 250-piece limitation. Whether either is worth buying depends on fit, design preference, condition and the price and warranty terms offered by a seller—none of which can be settled by the official specification pages alone.
