The Oris Big Crown ProPilot Worldtimer is a large, 44.70 mm automatic dual-time watch distinguished by a practical local-time adjustment: its central hour hand moves forward or backward in one-hour steps, while the date follows that hand across midnight. A separate subdial displays the second time zone. Those documented features make it an appealing travel-watch concept, but the listed dimensions and 38-hour power reserve are important considerations before buying.
What the Oris Big Crown ProPilot Worldtimer displays
The watch separates its two time zones across the dial. The central hour and minute hands show T1, which Oris describes as local time. At 3 o’clock, a subsidiary dial shows T2 hours and minutes and includes a day/night indicator. Small seconds sit at 9 o’clock, and the date window is synchronized with T1.
That layout is different from a conventional 24-city world-time ring: the documented display gives you a second time zone on a dedicated subdial, rather than a simultaneous readout of many cities. It is suited to tracking a home or reference time while setting the central hands to local time.
How the Worldtimer adjustment works
Oris’s product documentation describes a mechanism that moves the central T1 hour hand forward or backward in one-hour increments. Depending on the listed configuration, the adjustment is made with two pushers or a rotating bezel. The date advances or retreats automatically when the hour hand crosses midnight. The listing also specifies quick date setting, fine timing adjustment and stop-seconds. These are documented functions, not results of an independent operating test.

The unusual local-time adjustment has a longer history at Oris. In its historical Calibre 112 brochure, the company called its 1997 Worldtimer a “world first” because it allowed local time to be adjusted forwards or backwards in one-hour jumps with plus and minus pushbuttons. That is Oris’s account of the mechanism’s history, not an independently verified industry-first claim.
Case size, construction and movement
The cited US listing identifies reference 01 690 7735 4063-07 5 22 05FC. Its specifications describe a 44.70 mm, multi-piece stainless-steel case and a 22 mm interhorn width. The crystal is domed sapphire with anti-reflective coating on the inside; the see-through caseback is screwed down and made of mineral glass.

At 44.70 mm, this is a substantial watch by diameter. That measurement is a useful first fit check, but it cannot establish how the watch wears: the cited listing does not state case thickness, and wrist comfort depends on more than diameter. If possible, try the exact configuration on before purchasing.
The listed automatic movement is Oris Caliber 690. Oris specifies a 38-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 A/h (4 Hz). These are manufacturer specifications; they do not establish independently measured accuracy or the reserve a particular watch will deliver in use.

Water resistance and intended use
Oris lists water resistance of 10 bar. This is the manufacturer’s rating for the cited product, not evidence of an independent water-resistance test. Follow the current care guidance for the exact reference and have the watch’s seals checked as appropriate; a rating alone does not establish the condition of an individual watch, particularly a used one.
Configurations, price and availability
Specifications and availability can vary by reference and market. The cited US reference is a leather-strap version; Oris regional listings also surface black or grey dials and textile, leather or steel bracelet configurations. Check the reference number and included strap or bracelet on the regional product page rather than assuming every listing describes the same watch.

Is the Oris Big Crown ProPilot Worldtimer worth considering?
Its strongest case is functional rather than a claim of superiority: the documented one-hour local-time jumps, date tracking with T1 and separate T2 subdial give it a clear travel-watch purpose. The trade-offs to weigh are its 44.70 mm diameter, the stated 38-hour reserve and a price that varies with market and configuration. The available specifications do not establish real-world comfort, accuracy, dial legibility or comparative performance, so those are best assessed by trying the particular watch and comparing it with alternatives that fit your needs.
Quick Recap
- Consider it if: you want a dedicated second-time-zone display and value changing local time in one-hour steps.
- Check carefully if: you prefer a smaller case, need independently verified performance information, or want a longer stated power reserve.
- Before buying: verify the full reference, strap or bracelet, current local price, availability and warranty terms.
