The Oris Divers Sixty-Five 42mm is a convincing heritage-style diver for buyers who want more wrist presence than the original 40mm model. Its appeal lies in the vintage-inspired design and choice of bracelet or straps, while the specification is comparatively restrained: 10 bar water resistance and a 38-hour power reserve on Oris’s currently listed reference. The available reviews support a positive recommendation, but not an objective claim that it was the best heritage watch of 2016.
Which Oris Divers Sixty-Five 42mm is this review about?
“Divers Sixty-Five 42mm” describes a family of configurations, not one uniquely identified watch. The contemporary 2016 reviews focused on a steel version with a blue dial; Oris’s current regional listings include multiple dial and strap or bracelet combinations. Details such as dial furniture and price should therefore be checked against the exact reference.
The specifications below are for Oris reference 01 733 7720 4054-07 4 21 18, as listed on Oris’s UK product page. Observations about the reviewed blue-dial watch are attributed to the reviewers.

How does the 42mm compare with the original 40mm?
The 42mm was presented as a larger, more conventional-looking companion, rather than a straightforward upgrade that makes the 40mm obsolete. Time+Tide reviewer Felix Scholz found the increase noticeable without being overwhelming and suggested that it would suit a different buyer. Fratello’s review likewise discusses the model as a larger take on the Sixty-Five.
In the blue-dial version covered by the 2016 reviews, the retro character comes from details such as the domed crystal and date display, but the reviewers differed in how they described the dial markers. Time+Tide noted cream-colored printed markers and a trapezoidal date window; Fratello described applied round indices and a date at 3 o’clock. Those descriptions should not be generalized to every 42mm configuration.

The practical choice is mainly about wrist presence and taste: consider the 42mm if the 40mm feels too small or you prefer a less stylized, more conventional-looking design. The original may be the more appealing option if its smaller size or distinctive styling is what draws you to the range.
Is 100m water resistance enough for swimming?
Oris lists 10 bar water resistance for the cited reference; the 2016 reviews describe the model as water-resistant to 100m. Time+Tide considered that suitable for swimming and in keeping with the watch’s skin-diver roots. That is not evidence of formal dive certification or a recommendation for professional diving. The rating alone also does not establish the condition of a particular used watch.

What strap or bracelet fits the 42mm Divers Sixty-Five?
The listed reference has a 21mm interhorn width, and Oris lists matching 21mm straps as well as a steel bracelet. The reviews discuss bracelet, rubber and leather configurations; Time+Tide praised the bracelet’s solid links and subtle taper, while noting that 21mm is an uncommon width that can make casual aftermarket strap shopping awkward.
Before ordering a replacement, confirm the exact reference, 21mm width, and whether the strap or bracelet end shape fits the case. A strap with the right width is not necessarily compatible with every end-link or case configuration.

What did reviewers say about the watch in 2016?
Time+Tide’s Felix Scholz called it “a worthy, if slightly more mainstream, follow-up to the original release” in a review published 17 August 2016. He saw the larger model as a logical expansion of the line rather than a replacement for the smaller watch. Fratello’s Michael Stockton also covered the blue-dial 42mm, including its steel bracelet option and Sellita SW200-1 identification.
These reviews provide informed design impressions, not independent comparative testing proving a category-wide winner. They make a case for the watch’s execution and heritage styling, but “best” depends on which watches are being compared and whether a buyer prioritizes size, movement specification, water resistance, or design.

How did the prices compare—and what do they mean now?
| Source and date | Configuration and quoted price | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Time+Tide, 2016 | AUD $2,800 on strap; AUD $3,000 on bracelet | Launch-era prices for the configurations cited in that review |
| Fratello, 2016 | €1,850 on leather; €2,050 with bracelet | Launch-era Euro prices for the configurations cited in that review |
| Oris UK listing, accessed 8 October 2026 | GBP 2,000 for reference 01 733 7720 4054-07 4 21 18 | A regional listing price for that reference, not a universal price or resale valuation |
The figures cover different dates, currencies, markets and configurations, so they do not establish a like-for-like price trend. The 2016 prices should not be read as current market values.
Is the Oris Divers Sixty-Five 42mm worth buying?
It is worth considering if you want a 42mm steel watch with clear vintage cues, a choice of bracelet or strap, and a date display. Its trade-offs are also clear: the cited reference has a 38-hour reserve, and the 21mm width narrows the pool of easy aftermarket strap options. The 10 bar rating suits the swimming use described by Time+Tide, but should not be stretched into a claim of professional dive capability.
Choose by the exact configuration and your preference between the 40mm and 42mm cases, not by the assumption that one is universally better. The evidence supports calling the 42mm a well-executed, more mainstream heritage diver—not declaring it the best heritage watch of 2016.
