What is the Panerai PAM372?
The PAM372, also written PAM00372, is the Luminor 1950 3 Days Acciaio. A model-specific review reports that it was introduced at SIHH in 2011 and describes a two-hand layout, sandwich dial, engraved dial text and polished steel case. Panerai’s manual places the broader Luminor 1950 design in the late 1940s and early 1950s, inspired by historical Panerai watches. It says the crown-protecting bridge was introduced to protect the crown and improve water resistance. For the Acciaio case, the manual describes a cusp-shaped case-band line, flatter caseback, thinner lugs and more protruding glass than a contemporary Luminor 1950. The figures below distinguish the manufacturer’s manual from specialist reference information. A specification describes the model or documented watch; it does not establish the condition or exact configuration of every used example.

Does the PAM372 have Plexiglas or sapphire?
Do not assume all PAM372 watches have the same front crystal. Panerai’s manual describes acrylic PMMA/Plexiglas, while the specialist database reports Plexiglas through R-series examples and sapphire from S-series examples. The model-specific review also describes early production with a 3 mm domed Plexiglas crystal and reports sapphire on later batches. These secondary-source details make the series designation a useful clue, not a substitute for checking the actual watch.
Ask the seller to identify the crystal and provide clear photographs and any replacement or service documentation. A crystal may have been replaced or polished; confirm what is fitted to the individual watch rather than relying on the reference name alone. Panerai’s manual notes that acrylic may be affected by insecticides, sunscreen and solvents. It describes a second crystal supplied with the documented watch and replacement through an Authorized Panerai Distributor under the warranty conditions applicable to that manual. Those are manual-era instructions, so confirm current service terms with Panerai.

How to wind and set the PAM372
Panerai’s manual describes the following crown operation. The crown-protecting lever must be opened to use the crown and closed again afterward.
- Wind it: raise the crown-protecting lever. With the crown in its initial position (position 0), turn the crown clockwise until it stops, then close the lever.
- Change the hour independently: pull the crown to the first click. Move the hour hand forward or backward in one-hour steps; the minute hand does not move.
- Set the time: pull the crown to the second click and set the time. Close the crown-protecting lever after adjustment.
The manual describes the first-click adjustment as a quick-hour function. It does not mean the watch has a date or additional dial functions; the stated display is hours and minutes.

What to check before buying a PAM372
The cited specifications cannot authenticate or assess a particular listing. A sound purchase decision depends on the actual watch, its history and whether its configuration suits you.
- Crystal: verify whether it is acrylic/Plexiglas or sapphire, and ask whether it has been replaced or polished.
- Originality and condition: request detailed images of the dial, hands, case finish, crown lever and crystal. Ask for movement and service documentation; the cited sources do not authenticate any individual watch.
- Ownership completeness: ask what box, papers, accessories and straps are included, and whether there is a service history. No current package configuration is established here.
- Fit: the 47 mm diameter is substantial on paper, but it cannot by itself predict comfort or wrist fit. Try the watch on if possible, and consider the 26 mm lug width when evaluating straps.
- Water resistance: the manual’s 10-bar specification is not proof that an older watch remains water-resistant. Do not infer present-day resistance from the original rating; ask for a current assessment before exposing a used example to water.
- Price and availability: no current market estimate or local availability is established here. Compare contemporaneous examples in your market with similar condition, crystal, documentation and service history.
Choosing a strap for the PAM372
The specialist database lists a 26 mm lug width, which is a useful search term when looking for a strap. Width alone does not guarantee a suitable fit: check the strap’s end shape, construction, length and buckle compatibility, and confirm the measurements against the watch and hardware you intend to use. The manual recommends an Authorized Distributor or Panerai Service Centre for strap or buckle replacement; check with Panerai for current service arrangements.
