Its size is central to the experience: this is a substantial watch, not a small-format interpretation of the design.
What the PAM00422 is
Panerai specifies a 47 mm case in polished AISI 316L steel, with 100 m water resistance. The black dial has luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers, plus a small-seconds display at 9 o’clock. A sapphire crystal in the caseback exposes the movement. These are the manufacturer’s listed specifications, not measurements of a particular pre-owned example. Panerai’s PAM00422 technical details provide the official reference point.
How the 47 mm case affects fit
Diameter is the first practical consideration. At 47 mm, the PAM00422 occupies a lot of wrist space, and its polished steel case gives that footprint a prominent presence. WatchTime measured its reviewed sample at 17.2 mm thick and 146 g; those are measurements of that example, not Panerai’s published figures or a guarantee that every watch will weigh or measure identically. A try-on is the most useful way to judge how the diameter and height sit on your wrist.
Manual winding and the rear power-reserve display
The hand-wound P.3001 calibre has 21 jewels, beats at 21,600 alternations per hour and uses two barrels. Panerai states a three-day power reserve and lists hours, minutes, power-reserve indication and small seconds among its functions. Monochrome’s review explains the useful visual detail: the reserve indicator is on the movement side and shows how much of the 72-hour reserve remains in the barrels. With the display back, the indicator is visible from the rear rather than on the dial.

Dial, crown bridge and caseback
The watch’s face is deliberately legible in layout: luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers stand out against black, while small seconds occupy the 9 o’clock position. The crown-protecting bridge is a defining part of the Luminor case design and adds visual and physical presence on the side of the watch. Turn the watch over and the sapphire display back reveals the P.3001, including its reserve indication. The result is a watch with its primary time display on the front and a practical movement detail on the back.
Water resistance: what 100 m does and does not tell you
Panerai lists the PAM00422 at 100 m water resistance. That is the model’s official rating; it does not establish the current water resistance of an individual watch. For a pre-owned example, the condition of its seals and service history matter, and the specification alone cannot confirm that a particular watch remains safe for water exposure.

Strap sizing and replacement
Panerai specifies a dark-brown suede strap in 26/22 mm and includes an additional black rubber strap, also 26/22 mm. The listed buckle is a 22 mm trapezoidal brushed-steel type. A replacement strap needs to match more than the widest measurement: confirm the attachment style, taper, buckle width and strap length for the individual watch. A strap described only as a 26 mm strap may not fit correctly.
What one timing test can—and cannot—tell you
WatchTime reported the following positional readings for its tested sample. They are reviewer results for that example, not Panerai specifications and not a prediction of another PAM00422’s performance. WatchTime’s test review reported an average deviation of +3.8 seconds per day and a maximum deviation of 14 seconds.

Who the PAM00422 may suit
The PAM00422 makes most sense for someone seeking a large, historically styled Luminor with manual winding, a three-day stated reserve and a reserve indicator that can be viewed through the caseback. Its 47 mm diameter makes wrist fit a decisive part of the choice. The available specifications and one reviewer’s sample test do not establish how every example performs, or what a particular watch is worth on the current market.
