The Patek Philippe Reference 5978P-010 combines a chronograph with an instantaneous perpetual calendar in a 42 mm platinum case. Its calendar indications and 30-minute chronograph counter are described by Patek Philippe as instantaneous; the manufacturer says energy-management mechanisms synchronize the displays, but does not publish the mechanisms’ geometry or exact jump timing.
What “two jumping mechanisms” means on the 5978P-010
Patek Philippe presents the 5978P-010 as a chronograph with an instantaneous perpetual calendar. The two functions at issue are the calendar display and the chronograph’s 30-minute counter. The calendar shows day, date, month, leap year, and day/night indications in apertures, alongside moon phases. The chronograph includes an instantaneous 30-minute counter.
The manufacturer says the movement’s energy-management mechanisms enable “the precise and simultaneous synchronization of all displays.” That is the extent of the published explanation: Patek Philippe does not specify the exact jump timing, internal geometry, or operating sequence, so those details cannot be inferred from the product description. Patek Philippe’s official 5978P-010 product page describes the functions and specifications.
Movement and calendar specifications

Patek Philippe lists a 32 mm diameter, 8.1 mm thickness, 4 Hz frequency (28,800 semi-oscillations per hour), and a Breguet balance spring. Its stated power reserve is 55–65 hours with the chronograph disengaged. These are manufacturer-published figures, not independent test results.
