The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time 5164R-001 pairs a rose-gold case with a practical dual-time display: one hour hand shows local time, another preserves home time, and the date follows the local hour. Patek Philippe’s current product page lists a 40.8 mm case, 10.2 mm thickness and 30 m water resistance. The fit impressions below are attributed to James Stacey’s 2019 review; they are not first-hand observations for this article.
What is the 5164R?
The 5164R-001 is the rose-gold version of Patek Philippe’s Aquanaut Travel Time, with a sunburst brown dial and dark-brown composite strap. Rose-gold applied numerals have white luminous coating. The local-time hand is rose gold; the skeletonized white-gold baton indicates home time. A rose-gold patented fold-over clasp completes the strap.
Patek Philippe says it has offered the men’s Aquanaut with its Travel Time mechanism since 2011. Its 2021 release described the 5164R-001 with caliber 324 S C FUS; the current product page lists caliber 26-330 S C FUS. Those are specifications from different dates, not interchangeable descriptions of one unchanged listing.
How does the Travel Time complication work?
Two hour hands make the two time zones readable on one dial. The solid hand indicates local time, which you can advance or move back in hour steps with the case pushers. The skeletonized hand continues to indicate home time and can sit beneath the local-time hand when both zones show the same hour. Separate day/night apertures identify whether it is day or night in each zone.

The date is coupled to local time and changes as local time passes midnight. Patek Philippe’s indexed official manual extract says that setting local time disconnects the local-time hand from the movement, so the displayed accuracy of the minute and seconds hands is not compromised. The pusher operation and hand behavior are also described in James Stacey’s account for Hodinkee; they were not independently tested for this article.
How it differs from a crown-set flyer GMT
The distinction is the control method, not an objectively better way to travel. Stacey contrasts a conventional flyer GMT, where the crown adjusts local hour, with the 5164’s case pushers. Which interface you prefer depends on whether you want to adjust the local hour at the crown or use dedicated pushers while retaining the second hour display.

What does 30 m water resistance mean here?
Patek Philippe’s current 5164R-001 listing specifies 30 m. Older coverage can differ: the 2021 release says 120 m applied to “most models,” and Hodinkee’s 2019 5164R review also gives 120 m. Hodinkee reported in 2024 that the rating for the 5164R had been updated from the earlier 120 m figure. For the current manufacturer specification, use 30 m rather than carrying forward the older number.

In his December 9, 2019 review, James Stacey wrote that the 40.8 mm watch felt smaller than he expected on his 7-inch wrist, sat close to the wrist and felt balanced despite the rose-gold case’s weight. He also noted the dark-brown strap and rose-gold clasp. These are one reviewer’s fit impressions on his wrist, not a guarantee of fit for other wearers. His review predates the current 30 m water-resistance listing.

Both references use the Travel Time concept; choosing between the documented metal options is a matter of preference for rose- or white-gold visual presence. The available evidence does not establish that one offers better accuracy, durability or investment performance.
