Pixel Watch 4 Leak Revisited: Thicker Design, Slimmer Bezels, and the Button Mystery

The 2025 Pixel Watch 4 renders previewed slimmer bezels, but Google’s final specs conflict with the leak’s 14.3 mm measurement and do not confirm extra buttons.

The April 2025 Pixel Watch 4 leak was directionally right about a more edge-to-edge display, but its headline claims need qualification now that the watch is a shipping product. Google confirmed a domed display with a larger active area and smaller bezels; it did not clearly confirm the leak’s 14.3 mm thickness or the extra buttons the renders seemed to show. Pixel Watch 4 launched in 2025, so this is a look back at what the renders got right—not a current rumor.

What the original Pixel Watch 4 leak claimed

On April 13, 2025, Gizmochina published unofficial renders that appeared to show a redesigned Pixel Watch 4. The report said the watch would be 14.3 mm thick, compared with 12.3 mm for Pixel Watch 3, and showed slimmer bezels, a changed side profile, and what appeared to be two additional side buttons. The renders also seemed to omit the charging pins used on Pixel Watch 3, prompting speculation about a different charging system. Gizmochina’s leak report warned that Google had not confirmed the device’s specifications, features, or price.

Those images could suggest design direction, but they could not establish final dimensions, the charging method, or the controls on the retail model. In particular, a thicker case might leave more room for a battery or other components, but the renders did not prove that was Google’s reason for changing the shape.

What Google confirmed in the finished watch

Google unveiled Pixel Watch 4 on August 20, 2025; it went on sale in the United States on October 9, 2025. The finished watch does have a domed Actua 360 display, with a 10% larger active display area than its predecessor. Google’s launch blog calls the bezels 16% smaller, while its support page says 15% smaller. Those are two official figures for bezel reduction, not interchangeable measures of the increase in active screen area. Google’s launch announcement and Google’s display support page give the respective claims.

  • The Google Pixel Watch 4 is a stunning display of precision craftsmanship, with Gemini, your built-in AI assistant, Google’s longest-lasting battery, and comprehensive tools for next-level health and fitness performance[1,2,3,4]
  • See it all and do the most with the Actua 360 domed display; it’s 10% larger and 50% brighter than Pixel Watch 3, and as durable as ever with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass[1]
  • The Google Pixel Watch 4 has Gemini built in[4]; just ask questions and your ultra capable AI assistant will deliver quick responses for personalized help; and stay connected when you’re texting with AI-powered quick replies that are hyper-relevant[5,6]
  • Get up to 30 hours of battery life or up to 48 hours in Battery Saver mode[3]; plus, the new side charging dock gives you 15 hours of battery in 15 minutes or less[7]
  • Train smarter with 40+ exercise modes and real-time stats on your wrist[8]; and with high-precision dual-frequency GPS, you get more accurate route tracking on runs and hikes[1]

Google also specifies peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. The watch comes in 41 mm and 45 mm case sizes, runs Wear OS 6, and is advertised with up to 40 hours of battery life on Google’s U.S. product page. That is a manufacturer’s maximum-use claim, not a guarantee for every setting or routine; display, GPS, LTE, health tracking, and other use affect actual endurance. The new charging dock and Google’s claim of 25% faster charging were part of the launch announcement as well. See the Google Store product page for current product details.

Does Pixel Watch 4 really have the leak’s thicker body?

The leak’s 14.3 mm figure is not a safe specification for the finished watch. Google’s published technical material lists the 45 mm model at 12.3 mm high, which conflicts with the leaked measurement. The most accurate conclusion is that the renders suggested a thicker design, but Google’s final published dimensions do not cleanly confirm 14.3 mm. Differences in measurement convention, a prototype, or an inaccurate render estimate could explain the mismatch; the available figures do not establish which explanation is correct. Google’s technical specifications are the more relevant source for the retail model.

Thickness can matter in daily wear: a taller case may sit less comfortably beneath sleeves or feel more prominent on a smaller wrist, particularly at 45 mm. But the leaked measurement should not be used to judge the watch’s fit. Try the case size if possible, rather than assuming that a larger-looking render describes the final watch.

Were the extra buttons real?

The renders appeared to show two added controls on the left side, beyond the familiar crown-and-button arrangement. That interpretation did not become a clearly confirmed headline feature. The finished watch is described as retaining a digital crown and a standard side button; Google’s product and support materials do not clearly confirm the extra physical buttons inferred from the renders. Pre-release images are not enough to conclude that Google adopted a multi-button redesign.

What changed from Pixel Watch 3?

The most visible confirmed change is the display. Other differences span software, charging, and safety features, many of which were not established by the original renders. The table separates the published claims from the leak’s visual clues.

The technical specifications provide model and connectivity details. Most phones running Android 11 or newer are supported, subject to Google Account and Pixel Watch app requirements; Pixel Watch 4 is not an iPhone-compatible alternative. Google’s product information sheet lists the compatibility requirements.

Should Pixel Watch 3 owners upgrade?

Pixel Watch 4 is more compelling if you want

  • A brighter display with less visual border and more active screen area.
  • The newer Wear OS 6 experience and expanded Gemini features, including Raise to Talk.
  • Google’s stated battery-life improvement and faster-charging dock.
  • Newer safety features, including satellite SOS where supported.

Keeping Pixel Watch 3 may make sense if

  • Your current watch meets your needs and you do not particularly value the display, software, or safety changes.
  • You were mainly drawn to the unconfirmed 14.3 mm measurement or extra-button arrangement; neither is a sound reason to buy the final model.
  • You are concerned about case size or wrist comfort and cannot try the watch before buying.

For Pixel-phone owners, the case for upgrading rests on the confirmed display, software, charging, and safety changes—not on the leaked silhouette. Google’s U.S. Store listing showed Pixel Watch 4 starting at $349.99 when this article’s price information was gathered; store prices and promotions can change. Buyers should check the live listing rather than treat that figure as a permanent price.

How it fits against other Android watches

Pixel Watch 4 is the more natural choice for buyers who want Google services, Gemini, Fitbit and Google Health features, and Pixel-oriented safety functions in a circular watch. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 is a direct Android alternative, particularly for Galaxy-phone owners who prefer Samsung Health and Samsung’s ecosystem; Samsung’s listed pricing and promotions vary, so verify the live offer at its official purchase page.

For serious training, Garmin watches may be a better fit when sport-specific metrics, endurance, and battery life matter more than deep Google integration. A TechRadar review reported some heart-rate discrepancies against a chest strap, a caveat worth weighing if workout measurement is central to your decision; that does not establish a general failure across users or activities. Read TechRadar’s Pixel Watch 4 review. For iPhone owners, Apple Watch is the practical ecosystem alternative; Pixel Watch 4 is designed for Android.
