1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYes—an Apple Watch can work with compatible Polar heart-rate sensors, and Polar Flow can export selected Polar records to Apple Health. However, this is not a complete two-way Polar–Apple system. A sensor paired directly to Apple Watch provides live workout heart rate; Polar Flow handles historical data export from Polar devices to Apple Health; and Apple Watch workouts are not documented as importable into Polar Flow.
The best setup depends on what you own: an H10, H9, Verity Sense, or OH1+ is an external sensor, while a Polar sports watch is a separate training platform. The current Polar Flow iOS listing supports iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision and requires iOS 17 or later; it does not show a native Apple Watch app: App Store listing.
What works with Apple Watch—and what does not
| Use case | Status | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Polar H10, H9, Verity Sense, or OH1+ paired to Apple Watch | Yes, when using Bluetooth | Pair in Apple Watch Settings and use the sensor as an external heart-rate source. |
| Polar sensor with Apple Workout | Generally yes | Apple Watch records the workout while compatible Bluetooth hardware supplies heart rate. |
| Polar Flow on Apple Watch | No native support shown | Use Polar Flow on iPhone for setup, syncing, and analysis. |
| Polar Flow to Apple Health | Yes | Enable Apple Health in Polar Flow and select categories. |
| Apple Watch workouts to Polar Flow | Not documented as supported | Polar documents Flow-to-Health export, not Health-to-Flow import. |
| Polar sports watch beside Apple Watch | Possible | They remain parallel ecosystems and can create duplicate records. |
Polar’s compatibility guidance lists the H10, H9, OH1+, and Verity Sense for Bluetooth use with compatible apps and devices: Polar compatibility guidance.
The three ways to combine Polar and Apple Watch
1. Use a Polar sensor as Apple Watch’s live heart-rate source
This is the simplest integration. Bluetooth carries current heart-rate readings to Apple Watch during a workout. Apple Workout, Fitness, and Health remain the Apple-side record, and Polar Flow does not need to be open.
#1 Best Overall
- WORKS WITH EVERYTHING: Polar HRM works with ALL HRM compatible Equipment.
- SUPREME ACCURACY: Widely recognized for its top precision by many sources, Polar H10 is the most accurate heart rate sensor in Polar's history. Polar H10 provides top quality measurement.
- CONNECTIVITY: Bluetooth, ANT plus and 5 kHz provide an excellent variety of connection options. You can use Bluetooth and ANT plus connections simultaneously as well as two Bluetooth connections simultaneously.
- POLAR PRO CHEST STRAP: With improved electrodes, an easy-to-use buckle and silicone dots, the strap is comfortable and interference-free.
- VERSATILITY: Polar H10 is fully waterproof and it has internal memory for multiple hours.
2. Export Polar records through Polar Flow
A Polar watch or sensor can synchronize with Polar Flow on iPhone. Flow then exports selected records to Apple Health. This is a historical-data route, not a live replacement for Apple Watch’s wrist sensor.
3. Wear a Polar watch and Apple Watch together
You can use one for Polar training tools and the other for notifications or general smartwatch functions. Choose one as the workout recorder; recording the same session independently on both can produce duplicate workouts, calories, steps, and heart-rate entries.

How to pair a Polar heart-rate sensor with Apple Watch
- Put on the Polar sensor and activate it according to its model instructions.
- Ensure Bluetooth broadcasting or pairing mode is active.
- On Apple Watch, open Settings → Bluetooth.
- Select the Polar sensor when it appears and enter a PIN if requested.
- Open Apple’s Workout app and start a session.
- Confirm that heart rate appears, then review the completed workout in Fitness and Health.
Apple documents this Bluetooth path at Apple Support. Apple also explains that an external monitor can help when wrist readings are inconsistent because of motion, cold, tattoos, or poor contact: Apple’s heart-rate guidance.
If the sensor does not appear
- Check battery charge, wear, skin contact, and strap or arm placement.
- Turn off Airplane Mode and keep the sensor close to the watch.
- Disconnect it from a phone, tablet, gym machine, or another app.
- In Bluetooth settings, forget a stale pairing, restart both devices, and pair again.
- Update Polar Flow and sensor firmware where applicable.
- If it pairs but shows no heart rate, moisten chest-strap electrodes, clean the strap, and verify that the sensor is broadcasting Bluetooth rather than only ANT+.
How to connect Polar Flow to Apple Health
- Open Polar Flow on iPhone.
- Tap More in the bottom-right corner.
- Open General settings and turn on the Apple Health toggle.
- Choose categories or tap Turn All Categories On.
- Tap Allow in the upper-right corner.
Polar’s instructions and category list are available at Polar Flow and Apple Health support. New data must first synchronize to Polar Flow before it can be exported.

| Weight recorded in Flow | Yes |
| Every proprietary training, recovery, or readiness metric | Not established; do not assume it transfers |
Fix missing or duplicated Health data
- In Polar Flow, go to More → General settings and tap Sync now under Apple Health. Polar says this resynchronizes the previous two weeks.
- On iPhone, open Health → Profile → Apps → Polar Flow and re-enable disabled categories.
- Update Polar Flow. If necessary, reinstall it and choose Keep when iPhone asks whether to retain Health data, then sign in and grant permissions again.
Set a preferred Health source
Open Health, choose a metric such as Steps, scroll to Data Sources & Access, tap Edit, move Polar Flow higher, and tap Done. Source order is metric-specific, so you can prefer Polar for one measurement while leaving Apple Watch first for another.
Which Polar sensor should you choose?
| Sensor | Form | Best for | Important trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| H10 | Chest strap | Intervals, running, cycling, rowing, and users prioritizing responsive workout heart rate | Requires wearing a chest strap; it is an external fitness sensor, not a medical diagnostic. |
| H9 | Chest strap | A straightforward, lower-tier Bluetooth chest-strap setup | Choose it only if you do not need a more feature-rich sensor package. |
| Verity Sense | Optical upper-arm sensor | People who dislike chest straps, strength training, rowing, cycling, and swimming | Polar describes Bluetooth, ANT+, and internal memory; follow its manual for pairing. Manual |
| OH1+ | Optical arm sensor | Owners of older Polar hardware seeking Bluetooth compatibility | Verify current firmware and receiving-device behavior before buying. |

Apple Watch versus a Polar sports watch
A Polar sports watch is not an Apple Watch accessory. It has its own display, GPS, sensors, workout recorder, Polar Flow account, and training or recovery history. Running both watches can result in competing calorie totals, step counts, heart-rate sources, and separate training-load records.
- Choose Apple Watch alone for convenience, Apple Fitness, rings, notifications, GPS, and everyday activity tracking.
- Choose a Polar watch as primary when Polar sport profiles, endurance analysis, recovery tools, and battery behavior matter more than Apple’s smartwatch ecosystem.
- Use both deliberately: make Apple Watch primary with a Polar sensor, or make Polar primary and wear Apple Watch mainly for notifications. Avoid recording identical workouts twice unless you are prepared to remove duplicates and manage Health source order.
Do not expect Polar recovery, readiness, or training-load scores to appear in Apple Health unless a specific metric is documented. Likewise, pairing a Polar sensor does not automatically improve Apple Watch ECG, irregular-rhythm notifications, blood-oxygen readings, or every cardio-fitness calculation. Apple says cardio-fitness estimates use qualifying outdoor walking, running, and hiking workouts; indoor workouts do not count toward that estimate: Apple cardio-fitness support.

- CONVENIENCE: With only one button, using Polar Verity Sense couldn't be easier. Just switch it on and put it on your arm or temple and you’re ready to start your workout right away.
- CONNECTIVITY: Bluetooth and ANT plus guarantee a large variety of devices that you can connect Polar Verity Sense with. You can have two simultaneous Bluetooth connections.
- VERSATILITY: Polar Verity Sense suits countless different applications. You can either follow your heart rate in real time on a connected device or app or record your session and transfer your data to your phone afterwards.
- ACCURACY: Verity Sense is able to accurately track heart rate when placed against the skin on your upper arm, forearm, or can be clipped to goggles.
Best setups by user
- Casual Apple Fitness user: Apple Watch alone unless wrist readings are unreliable.
- Serious runner or cyclist: H10 with Apple Watch for chest-based live heart rate.
- Swimmer: Verity Sense for its upper-arm or swimming-oriented form and internal memory, after confirming the intended recording workflow.
- Gym user: Verity Sense if a wrist sensor loses contact during lifting; H10 if a chest strap is comfortable.
- Apple Watch owner who dislikes straps: Verity Sense is the practical external-sensor alternative.
- Polar watch owner wanting Apple notifications: Keep Polar as the workout recorder and treat Apple Health as a partial export destination.
Key limitations to remember
- Direct Bluetooth pairing is live heart-rate input; Flow-to-Health is historical export. They are different routes.
- Polar’s documented Apple Health direction is one-way. Workouts recorded by Apple Watch should not be expected to appear in Polar Flow.
- Not every Polar metric transfers, and continuous heart rate is specifically excluded from the documented list.
- Check the exact sensor’s Bluetooth mode, firmware, and compatibility rather than treating every Polar product as interchangeable.
The Bottom Line
Best overall upgrade: add a Polar H10 to Apple Watch for chest-based workout heart rate, or choose Verity Sense for upper-arm comfort and swimming flexibility. Use H9 for a simpler chest-strap setup. Choose a Polar sports watch only when Polar’s training ecosystem is the goal—and treat Polar Flow to Apple Health as a partial, one-way export rather than a full two-way integration.
