What is the Praesidus DD-45?
Praesidus presents the DD-45 as an homage to the watches commissioned by the British War Office during the Second World War. The brand says it chose a deliberately aged presentation rather than simply modernizing the original design. Its history page describes three dial treatments: Factory Fresh, Patina, and Tropical. In Praesidus’ historical summary, the “Dirty Dozen” refers to twelve Swiss watchmakers responding to a British War Office request for military wristwatches. How to choose between the automatic and OG
Choose the 38 mm automatic if you want the mechanical version
The collection configuration uses the Landeron L24 automatic movement. Its 38 mm case is smaller in diameter than the OG’s 40 mm case. The Factory Fresh product listing also gives the movement’s 28,800 beats-per-hour rate and 25 jewels; those details are specific to that listing and should not be assumed to describe the OG.

Choose the 40 mm OG if you prefer quartz
The OG uses the Ameriquartz 70200A quartz movement. Its listed dimensions—40 mm diameter, 11.5 mm thickness, and 46.5 mm lug-to-lug—give a more complete picture of its proportions than the collection page provides for the automatic version. Praesidus says the quartz movement means it does not need winding.
Compare the dial and strap on the exact listing
Factory Fresh, Patina, and Tropical are the dial treatments Praesidus names for the DD-45. The collection page also lists brown leather, Bonklip, and green Perlon options. The source does not establish that every dial treatment is offered with every strap or movement, so check the selected product’s actual configuration rather than assuming interchangeability.

Praesidus estimates that about 150,000 watches were produced across the historical group. It also gives approximate outputs of 25,000 for the largest listed maker and 1,000 for Grana. The brand presents these as estimates, and its page does not state a publication year for the figures; they should not be read as independently verified totals.
