What is the Praesidus × The Watch Observer A-11 Type 44?
It is a limited-edition version of Praesidus’s Type 44, developed with French watch publication The Watch Observer and aviation historian Grégory Pons. The 250-piece edition commemorates the 533rd Bomb Squadron, with its insignia engraved on the caseback. Praesidus describes the run as limited to 250 watches; Fratello reports that the watches are numbered.
The collaboration is a modern watch inspired by the World War II A-11 military-watch specification, not an original wartime-issued watch. The Watch Observer and Europa Star describe that historical inspiration, while Praesidus’s broader Type 44 family draws on study of an original 1944 Waltham A-11.
Design and dimensions
The collaboration uses the 38 mm stainless-steel case. Fratello gives its dimensions as 45 mm lug-to-lug and 13 mm thick, with a 20 mm lug width. These measurements offer a more complete sense of fit than diameter alone, though how it wears will also depend on wrist shape and preference.

The caseback engraving represents the 533rd Bomb Squadron insignia. Praesidus describes a skull pierced by a missile and topped with a Roman legionnaire’s helmet; Fratello describes a skull in a centurion’s helmet with a bomb motif.

What the 533rd Bomb Squadron connection means
The edition’s specific tribute is to the 533rd Bomb Squadron, expressed through the caseback insignia. Fratello reports that the squadron flew B-17s from England and took part in Big Week and support for the Normandy landings. Europa Star likewise connects the squadron with Big Week and bombing bridges and airfields in support of the invasion. Those are historical accounts from the publications, rather than details established by the watch’s product listing.

How it differs from the standard Praesidus Type 44
The collaboration keeps the Type 44’s 38 mm format but adds its own commemorative execution: a black dial with sword-style hands, the squadron-engraved caseback, and the reported Bonklip bracelet and khaki canvas strap. Praesidus’s general Type 44 family page also describes a 32 mm case option, but that is family background; the collaboration edition is specified as 38 mm.

Praesidus lists the edition at US$675, while The Watch Observer shop lists it at €695. These are the amounts shown on the sellers’ pages, not confirmation of a current offer. The Watch Observer page gives September 25, 2025, as the availability date; Fratello reported a presale through October 25, 2025, and Europa Star said preorder delivery was scheduled before December 20, 2025. Those were launch-era terms.
