Grand Seiko’s refreshed 62GS Sekki pair comprises the green-dial Rikka SBGH351 and the darker-blue Shūbun SBGH353. The Rikka’s official UK product page confirms its 9S85 Hi-Beat movement and a full specification set; the official material reviewed for the Shūbun confirms its reference and darker dial, but not a matching technical table. That distinction matters when comparing the two.
What changed on the Rikka and Shūbun?
The new references update an established seasonal pairing rather than introduce a new collection concept. Rikka moves from SBGH271 to SBGH351, retaining the early-summer green theme. Shūbun moves from SBGH273 to SBGH353, with official UK boutique material describing a darker-blue dial update to the original.

| Rikka | SBGH271 | SBGH351 | Green dial inspired by early summer; the refreshed official page identifies caliber 9S85. |

Grand Seiko’s 2019 announcement describes the earlier SBGH271 and SBGH273 as using mechanical Hi-Beat caliber 9S85. That predecessor information does not, by itself, establish every technical specification of the updated SBGH353.
How do the seasonal designs differ?
Rikka: early summer in green
Rikka refers to the start of summer in Japan’s traditional twenty-four sekki, or seasonal divisions. Grand Seiko’s 2019 description evokes the transition from spring into a lush, green landscape. The refreshed SBGH351 carries that story in a deep green dial. The brand also associates the season with kunpu, a refreshing summer zephyr.

Shūbun: the autumnal equinox in darker blue
Shūbun refers to the autumnal equinox. Grand Seiko’s original design description connects its dark-blue dial with the autumn sky and clouds under moonlight; tsukiyo describes a bright moon against a dark sky. The official UK boutique material identifies SBGH353 as a darker-blue update to the original SBGH273. The available description does not establish whether every element of the earlier dial story or design carries over unchanged.
What are the published specifications for Rikka SBGH351?
Grand Seiko’s UK product page publishes the following details for SBGH351. Its accuracy figures distinguish a controlled mean daily rate from performance in normal use.
| Specification | SBGH351 Rikka |
|---|---|
| Case diameter | 40.0 mm |
| Lug-to-lug | 47.0 mm |
| Thickness | 12.9 mm |
| Movement | Caliber 9S85 |
| Power reserve | Approximately 55 hours |
| Mean daily rate | +5 to −3 seconds per day |
| Normal-usage accuracy | +8 to −1 seconds per day |

The official UK boutique material reviewed identifies SBGH353 as the refreshed Shūbun and describes its dial as darker blue than the SBGH273. It does not provide a full technical table comparable to the SBGH351 page. Accordingly, dimensions, water resistance, accuracy, and power reserve for SBGH353 are not established by that material. Although Grand Seiko documented caliber 9S85 in the earlier SBGH273, the available SBGH353 description does not independently confirm that specification for the refreshed watch.

Why the 62GS design matters
Grand Seiko launched the 62GS in 1967 as its first automatic model. Its bezel-free construction leaves a wide opening around the dial, while the multi-faceted case is designed to catch light. The seasonal dials give the two refreshed watches distinct identities within that shared case design: verdant early summer for Rikka and a darker, moonlit autumnal mood for Shūbun.
