The Marathon OSAR-D is a 2024 reworking of the SAR-D, with larger dial markers, updated MaraGlo illumination and a magnified date display. Its 41mm version is a deliberately functional automatic diver: the standout is quick-to-read layout, not a restrained or dressy look. The first published impressions were based on images, not hands-on time, so they are not evidence of how the watch wears or performs in testing.
What changed from the SAR-D?
Marathon describes the OSAR-D as a re-engineered continuation of the SAR-D, originally issued to Canadian Search and Rescue technicians in the early 2000s. The OSAR-D family launched in 2024. Its stated updates are larger indices, improved MaraGlo illumination and a clearer magnified date window. Marathon’s OSAR-D family page presents the redesign as an update to a working tool watch rather than a move toward a more decorative diver.
The dial’s geometry makes that priority obvious: a triangle at 12, bars at 6 and 9, and dots between. The date is at 3 o’clock under a magnifier. In the October 2024 introduction, Thomas Van Straaten contrasted this layout with more recent SAR versions that used numerals and tritium tubes, and saw the OSAR-D as closer to the early-2000s SAR-D design. His article was an image-based first impression; he explicitly said he had not handled the new watch.
Does the oversized-marker design work?
As a design choice, the markers are hard to miss—and that is the point. They occupy substantial dial area, creating a high-contrast visual map instead of a conventional field of numerals. The triangle, bars and dots help distinguish positions at a glance, while the larger indices and updated MaraGlo treatment serve the same legibility-first brief in low light. That visual emphasis will appeal to readers who want a purposeful instrument; it may feel blunt or oversized to someone seeking a refined everyday diver.

#1 Best Overall
- Power: Sellita SW200-1 with Incabloc Shock Protection
- Gear Count: 26
- Date Display: Magnified Date Window
- Glow: MaraGlo Illumination
- Crystal: Sapphire Glass
Van Straaten’s initial reaction was that the markers looked excessive in photographs, but that they made more sense on further examination. He described the watch as unapologetic about legibility and noted its tall, coarsely knurled bezel. He also preferred the rubber strap visually to the simple bracelet. Those are editorial impressions from images, not findings from wearing or comparing the watch.
What does the current 41mm model offer?
Marathon’s official US listing identifies the 41mm Original SAR with Date (OSAR-D) as SKU WW194006SS-2030. The product page lists a rubber strap kit and a price of $1,800 USD as checked on October 8, 2026. Its stated case dimensions are:

- Luminescence: MaraGlo for Visibility
- Crystal: Sapphire for Durability
- 41mm diameter

The official 41mm product page confirms the listed size, kit configuration and price. Its 20mm lug width provides a basis for considering other straps, though fit should be checked against the exact reference and clasp setup.
Movement and water resistance
Marathon’s OSAR-D family page specifies a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement with Incabloc shock protection in the 41mm model, and lists 30 ATM water resistance. The October 2024 Fratello article gives further movement details: 28,800 vibrations per hour, 26 jewels and a power reserve of up to 41 hours. That reserve figure is article-reported; it is not displayed in the official product-page information cited here.

The Fratello introduction also reports a stainless-steel case, sapphire crystal, screw-in steel caseback and 60-minute dive bezel. These are specifications reported in that 2024 article, rather than a hands-on assessment. No accuracy, comfort, durability or underwater test results are established by the cited coverage.
How should you read the price history?
Price depends on date and configuration. Fratello reported US launch prices on October 4, 2024 of US$1,380 on rubber and US$1,680 on bracelet. Marathon’s US product page lists $1,800 for the 41mm rubber-strap kit as checked October 8, 2026. The older prices are launch figures, not current quotes; regional pricing and availability may differ.

How does the 41mm fit into the OSAR-D family?
The family page distinguishes the movement by size: the 36mm and 41mm models use the SW200-1, while the 46mm uses a Sellita SW600-B with a stated 62-hour power reserve. That 62-hour figure belongs to the 46mm model and should not be attributed to the 41mm watch. The family source does not provide the other sizes’ full dimensions here, so the 41mm measurements above should not be projected onto them.
Marathon’s family page also publishes a testimonial from Brock Stevens, identified by the company as a Navy Diver: “WORKS EXTREMELY WELL AS A DIVE WATCH AND AS A TOOL.” It is a manufacturer-published testimonial, not independent performance testing.

Who is the OSAR-D for?
The 41mm OSAR-D makes most sense for someone who values a strongly legible, instrument-like dial and a purpose-built tool-watch character. Its big markers, magnified date and prominent bezel are coherent with that aim. If you want a quieter, more polished everyday diver, the same unapologetic design may be a drawback rather than a selling point. The available first-look article can help explain the design intent, but it does not establish how the watch feels on the wrist or performs in use.
