Their clearest practical differences are the strap and dial; published specifications also vary in how much detail Rado provides for each reference. This guide compares the documented models without extending older water-resistance claims to newer references.
Why the Captain Cook looks back to 1962
Rado describes the Captain Cook as a modern reimagining of an original 1962 design. Its product copy says, “An original look from 1962 is brought to life in a new and improved form for the twenty-first century.” That is Rado’s account of the design lineage, not an independent assessment of how faithfully the current watch reproduces the original. Which Captain Cook Bronze references are listed in the US?
Rado’s US pages list three bronze references. The most immediately visible choice is between green and red dials; the green dial is available with either leather or fabric, while the red dial is paired with fabric.
| Reference | Dial | Strap | Published dimensions | Movement and reserve | Price snapshot |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| R32504315 | Green | Leather | 42.0 mm diameter; 12.5 mm thick | R763 automatic; date; 80-hour reserve | $3,250 displayed on Rado’s US product page when crawled; dated snapshot, not a guaranteed current price |
| R32504317 | Green | Fabric NATO | 42.0 mm diameter; 12.5 mm thick; press material also gives 48.6 mm length | R763 automatic; date; 80-hour reserve | Not stated in the cited Rado materials |
| R32504407 | Red | Fabric | 42 mm diameter; thickness not stated in the cited product-page extract | R763 automatic; date; 80-hour reserve | Not stated in the cited Rado materials |
Specifications and configurations are taken from the corresponding R32504315, R32504317 and R32504407 product pages. Rado’s collection and product pages were crawled weeks before the research timestamp, so lineup and displayed price should be treated as snapshots rather than assurances of present availability.

How the three versions differ in use and appearance
Green dial with leather: R32504315
This is the only listed configuration with a leather strap. It shares the 42 mm diameter and 12.5 mm thickness published for the green fabric version, and Rado’s page specifies the R763 automatic movement, date and 80-hour power reserve. Its US page displayed $3,250 at the time it was crawled.
Green dial with fabric: R32504317
This keeps the green dial but changes the strap to fabric NATO. Rado lists the same movement, date and reserve as the leather reference. The company’s press material adds a 48.6 mm length measurement, yielding dimensions of 42.0 × 48.6 × 12.5 mm. The product page and press material are the sources for these reference-specific details.
Rank #2
- Case Size: 42 MM
- Swiss Automatic Movement
- Crafted of Stainless Steel & High-tech Ceramic
- up to 80 Hours Power Reserve
Red dial with fabric: R32504407
This is the listed red-dial option and uses a fabric strap. Rado’s product-page extract identifies a 42 mm case and the R763 automatic movement with date and 80-hour reserve, but does not establish the same full set of case dimensions published for the two green references.
Movement, materials and case dimensions
Rado specifies its R763 automatic calibre, date display and 80-hour power reserve for R32504315 and R32504317; the R32504407 page extract also gives R763, date and 80 hours. Rado describes the hairspring as antimagnetic Nivachron on the product pages where that detail is reported. Press material for R32504317 lists 25 jewels and says the movement is tested in three to five positions. Those additional details are documented for that reference in press material, not established here as universal specifications for all three versions. R32504317 product page

- Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Chronograph Gents
- Round Case with Rotating Bronze Bezel Blue Dial and Date Display, 3 Subdials and Gold Crown
- Multiple Bracelets, Blue Leather Strap and Fabric Strap on Collectors Box
- Water Resistant 300 m
- Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating
Current US product-page materials describe the case materials as bronze, high-tech ceramic and titanium. The older press release covers a specific earlier Captain Cook Bronze model and describes a brushed CuAl bronze case, a bronze turning bezel, a polished green high-tech ceramic insert and sapphire crystal. Those details should not automatically be assigned to every later listed reference. Rado’s earlier Captain Cook Bronze press release
Water resistance: what the published evidence supports
Rado’s earlier press release specifies water resistance to 30 bar (300 m) for the model documented in that release. The current product-page extracts used for the three US-listed references do not establish that rating for each one. Treat 300 m as a claim for the earlier press-release model only, and consult the documentation for the exact reference before relying on a water-resistance rating.

Which reference makes the most sense?
- Choose R32504315 if you want the green dial on leather and prefer a reference whose US page provides a dated price snapshot.
- Choose R32504317 if you want the green dial with a fabric NATO strap; it also has the most complete published dimension set among the listed configurations.
- Choose R32504407 if the red dial is the deciding feature and a fabric strap suits your preference.
These distinctions are based on Rado’s listed configurations and published specifications, not comparative wear or performance testing. The pages establish the options; they do not establish which one will fit or feel best for an individual wearer.
