The 2025 Rado Captain Cook Over-Pole Limited Edition, reference R32193018, pairs a 39 mm gold-tone PVD case with a black ceramic city bezel and a hand-wound movement. Its city ring gives it a distinctive world-time display, while its vintage-inspired proportions and two supplied strap options make it a more particular proposition than a conventional GMT watch. It is limited to 1,962 numbered pieces. This review concerns the 2025 gold PVD model—not the smaller 2022 stainless-steel Over-Pole.
What the 2025 Over-Pole is
The R32193018 revisits Rado’s Over-Pole design, first introduced in 1962, in a gold-tone finish. The case is stainless steel with yellow-gold PVD coating; the bezel is black high-tech ceramic and carries city names for its world-time function. A silver-white dial, date display and sapphire display caseback complete the design. Rado’s official specifications list the case at 39 mm in diameter and 10.9 mm thick, with a weight of 63.2 g.
The gold finish is a coating, not a solid-gold case. That distinction matters if you are choosing the watch for its appearance or considering how the finish may wear over time. The black ceramic bezel provides a contrasting dark frame, while the silver-white dial keeps the hands and 24-hour scale visually distinct.
How the city-ring world time works
The Over-Pole uses its rotating city bezel together with a 24-hour scale on the dial. Rado’s instruction is to align the chosen city with the hour hand; the number indicated on the 24-hour ring then shows that city’s local time. It is a city-ring world-time display, not a conventional GMT arrangement: there is no separate, independently adjustable GMT hand.

The display is best suited to checking the hour in another time zone at a glance. Before relying on it, set the watch’s time and align the relevant city according to Rado’s instructions. As with other city-ring displays, daylight-saving changes and differing regional time rules may affect how useful a city reference is at a given time of year.
Movement and everyday operation
Inside is Rado calibre R862, a hand-wound movement with an 80-hour power reserve and a Nivachron hairspring. Rado states that it tests the movement in-house in five positions and specifies a frequency of 21,600 A/h, or 3 Hz. The long reserve means the watch can run for more than three days after a full wind, although actual running time depends on the movement’s state and use.

Hand-winding is part of the experience, but it is also a daily consideration: the watch does not self-wind on the wrist. The display caseback lets the owner see the movement, while the date adds a practical complication without changing the watch’s core appeal as a travel-time piece.
Fit, proportions and straps
Rado lists a 39 mm case diameter and 10.9 mm thickness for the gold reference. Independent reviewer Michael Stockton at Fratello measured a 45.5 mm lug-to-lug length and described the watch as comfortable and slim enough to sit beneath a shirt cuff. He also observed that the broad bezel can make the watch appear larger than its diameter suggests. These are one reviewer’s hands-on impressions rather than a guarantee of fit for every wrist.

Diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears. Consider lug-to-lug length, case thickness, wrist shape, the visual width of the bezel and whether a gold-tone finish suits your usual clothing and other watches. The edition comes with a gold-tone PVD steel bracelet and a brown leather strap. Rado’s EasyClip system allows strap changes without special tools; the set also includes a leather pouch and limited-edition certificate.
How it differs from the 2022 steel Over-Pole
The 2025 R32193018 follows a 2022 stainless-steel limited edition that marked the Over-Pole’s 60th anniversary. The references are easy to confuse because both use the Captain Cook Over-Pole name, but their size and finish are different.

The 2022 model’s 100 m water-resistance figure should not be assumed to apply to the 2025 gold reference. Choose between the editions on the evidence for each reference, rather than treating them as different finishes of the same-sized watch.

Who should consider the Rado Captain Cook Over-Pole?
The R32193018 makes the most sense for someone drawn to its gold-tone vintage styling, city-ring time display and hand-wound operation. It offers a clear identity beyond a standard three-hand watch, but the appeal is specific: the gold finish is prominent, and the city bezel is a different way to read a second time zone than a dedicated GMT hand.
