Its defining details are a hexagonal-faceted sapphire crystal, a radial-brushed Ceramos™ coiffe and two included straps. Rado lists an 80-hour power reserve and 100 m water resistance; its US product page lists the watch at $2,300.
What is the DiaStar Original 60-Year Anniversary Edition?
Rado’s anniversary edition, reference R12163118, marks six decades of the DiaStar. Rado says the first DiaStar was presented in April 1962 at the Basel watch fair and describes it as “the world’s first scratch-proof watch.” That is Rado’s historical claim, not a guarantee that this modern watch cannot be scratched. Rado’s anniversary overview presents the anniversary model as a contemporary interpretation of the original design.
Design and what comes with it
Rado credits Swiss designer Alfredo Häberli with the collaboration. The monochrome grey design combines a stainless-steel case with a Ceramos™ coiffe, which Rado describes as radial-brushed with polished angles. The sapphire crystal has hexagonal facets, distinguishing it from the parallel-stripe-faceted crystal Rado describes for standard DiaStar Original models. Super-LumiNova® appears on the hands and hour markers.
The package includes a woven stainless-steel Milanese bracelet and a mottled grey textile strap. Rado says its EasyClip system allows the straps to be changed. The product page also lists a grey pouch. Rado does not publish a verified replacement-strap width in the cited product information, so compatibility with generic straps should not be assumed. See Rado’s US product listing.

How it differs from standard DiaStar Original models
The anniversary watch is one reference within the wider DiaStar Original family, not a specification shared by every model in the collection. Rado’s collection overview describes standard versions with a parallel-stripe-faceted sapphire crystal, an H-link stainless-steel bracelet and blue, grey or green dial options. The anniversary edition instead has the hexagonal-faceted crystal, Ceramos™ coiffe and included Milanese bracelet plus textile strap.
