RESERVOIR’s Black Sparrow is a three-configuration mechanical watch collection announced in March 2023. Its pilot-watch styling draws on early cockpit instruments, while its RSV-240 movement uses a jumping hour and retrograde minute display instead of conventional central hands. The published specifications include a 42 mm case, 56-hour power reserve and 5 ATM water resistance; those are manufacturer figures, not independent test results.
What is the RESERVOIR Black Sparrow?
Black Sparrow is RESERVOIR’s aeronautic-themed collection, announced on March 27, 2023. The brand says the design takes inspiration from instruments in early fighter cockpits. Its lineup pairs black or sand-colored dials with steel or black PVD cases, luminous Art Nouveau-inspired numerals and Barenia leather straps. RESERVOIR describes the movement as Swiss Made and calls it a manufacture self-winding mechanical movement based on the LJP G100; that wording does not establish which components the brand makes itself.
In its launch announcement, RESERVOIR said the collection “takes inspiration from the simple looking yet complex instruments from the first air fighter’s cockpits” and pays tribute to Eugene Bullard. How does the jumping-hour and retrograde-minute display work?
The hour appears in a window and changes in a single jump at the end of each hour. Minutes are indicated by a hand that travels along an arc; at the end of its scale, it returns to the beginning for the next hour. The arrangement makes time legible in a different way from a standard watch with central hour and minute hands. RESERVOIR identifies this display as the defining function of the RSV-240.

How do the three configurations differ?
The variations are chiefly in the case finish, dial and strap color. The product pages identify reference RSV02.PL/135.BL for Black & Steel and RSV02.PL/135.WH for Sand & Steel. The black product page also gives RSV02.PL/135.BL, duplicating the Black & Steel reference shown in the pressroom, so the exact Black & Black reference is not clear from the published material.

All three product pages list the same core movement and display figures. RESERVOIR also describes an additional leather NATO strap in the box; check the relevant product listing for the configuration’s included strap details. A 20 mm width alone does not confirm that a replacement strap will fit, since attachment and fit details also matter.

Who was Eugene Bullard?
Eugene Bullard was an American who served in France’s armed forces during World War I and flew in combat for France—not for the U.S. military. The National Museum of the United States Air Force says he became the first African American military pilot in August 1917 and recounts his service in the French Foreign Legion, pilot training and combat flying with the Lafayette Flying Corps. The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum describes him as the first African-American military pilot to fly in combat and the only African-American pilot in World War I; its account says he entered the French Aéronautique Militaire in November 1916 and received his wings in May 1917.
