The original RZE Ascentus GMT pairs a lightweight, angular Grade 2 titanium case with Seiko’s NH34 automatic GMT movement and 200 m water resistance. Its independently adjustable 24-hour hand is useful for tracking another time zone, but the movement is caller-style—not a flyer GMT with a jumping local-hour hand. Reviewers found it compact and light on the wrist; its 41-hour stated power reserve and unverified current availability are worth weighing before you seek one out.
What the original Ascentus GMT is
This article covers the original Ascentus GMT reviewed in 2022 and 2023, not a later or otherwise different Ascentus variant. It is a titanium sports watch with an automatic GMT complication, designed around a faceted tool-watch case. The reviewed versions use the SII/Seiko NH34 movement. Fratello Watches and WatchReport both identify the NH34 and describe the 24-hour hand as independently adjustable.
How the NH34 GMT works
The NH34 lets you adjust the 24-hour GMT hand independently, so you can use it to follow a second time zone while the regular hour and minute hands show local time. WatchReport characterizes the movement as a caller-style GMT: it does not independently jump the local-hour hand in the manner of a flyer GMT. If you travel often and want to change local time in one-hour steps without stopping the watch, that distinction matters; the reviewed movement does not offer that setting behavior. The GMT hand and 24-hour bezel support reading another time zone. WatchReport notes that the bezel rotates unidirectionally, so it is worth checking whether that arrangement suits how you intend to use the watch.

Case dimensions and wrist fit
Fratello lists a 40 mm case diameter, 46 mm lug-to-lug length, 13 mm thickness and 20 mm lug width; WatchReport corroborates the main case dimensions. The 46 mm span is the useful figure to consider if you are assessing how the watch may sit across your wrist, while the 13 mm thickness gives it a substantial profile despite the modest diameter. The bracelet width at the lugs is 20 mm. Fratello’s specification list also gives a weight of 90–110 g depending on the number of bracelet links.
These measurements do not guarantee a particular fit: wrist shape, bracelet sizing and personal preference all matter. WatchReport’s Don Evans described the watch as lightweight on his 7½-inch wrist and praised its angular case, but said he would have preferred a larger watch. Titanium construction and water resistance
The reviewed specification combines a bead-blasted Grade 2 titanium case with RZE UltraHex coating, a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner side, and a titanium screw-down caseback. Fratello’s reviewer, Dave Sergeant, described the 40 mm Grade 2 titanium case as “highly faceted with no curved surfaces”—a visual impression of the design rather than a manufacturer specification. Both reviews list 200 m / 20 ATM water resistance; Fratello also gives the equivalent as 660 ft. Power reserve and stated accuracy
Fratello reports a 41-hour power reserve and a movement frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. The review also repeats Seiko’s quoted accuracy range of −20/+40 seconds per day. That range is an account of the maker’s stated specification, not an independent timing result for the watch. A 41-hour reserve is moderate by current automatic-watch standards, so owners who rotate among watches may need to reset it after leaving it unworn for longer than its reserve. Fratello Watches

Bracelet and strap options
The 20 mm lug width gives you a standard starting point for looking at replacement straps. WatchReport says the bracelet has quick-release pins and can be removed, but that does not establish that every 20 mm aftermarket strap will fit the case cleanly. Before buying, check whether the strap has straight or shaped ends, confirm the attachment type, and allow for clearance at the case. Neither review documents a test of aftermarket straps. Historical price and current availability
The prices in the hands-on reviews are historical, not current offers: Fratello cited US$549 in its review dated April 2, 2023, while WatchReport cited $550 in its review dated December 27, 2022. The official RZE pages checked for this article provide collection and legacy-model navigation, but do not establish live stock or a current price for the original NH34 version. Who the Ascentus GMT may suit
The original Ascentus GMT is most compelling if you want a compact-feeling titanium sports watch, a 24-hour hand for tracking another time zone, and a high stated water-resistance rating. Its trade-offs are equally specific: the NH34 is caller-style rather than flyer-style, the stated reserve is 41 hours, and current stock and pricing for this original model are not established by the reviewed pages.

If you compare it with another GMT watch, focus on the setting style first, then compare case diameter and lug-to-lug length, thickness, weight, case material, water resistance, power reserve, bracelet or strap fit, and verified current price. Those factors distinguish practical travel use from a watch that simply has a GMT hand.
