The RESERVOIR Sonomaster Chronograph Vintage, reference RSV04.SN/136.BL, pairs a conventional chronograph with retrograde seconds and date displays inspired by the VU meters of vintage stereo amplifiers. It is a 43 mm steel watch with an automatic column-wheel chronograph movement. The prices reported at its April 2022 launch are historical, not a current quote; RESERVOIR’s product page now labels the model “Sold Out.”
What the Sonomaster Chronograph Bi-Retrograde displays
The black-and-beige dial combines familiar chronograph counters with two 120-degree retrograde indicators. The central hands show the time, while a separate central seconds hand serves the chronograph.
- At 12 o’clock: a 30-minute chronograph counter.
- At 6 o’clock: a 12-hour chronograph counter.
- Retrograde indicators: one displays seconds and the other the date.
RESERVOIR’s product page describes the hands as treated with Super-LumiNova. The brand’s specification does not establish how legible the dial is in particular lighting or how it performs in use.
Design: amplifier meters translated into a watch dial
RESERVOIR says the two retrograde hands reproduce the needles of power meters, or VU meters, found on analog stereo amplifiers. The company’s launch explanation names the vintage Luxman M10 Mk II as an inspiration for the meter-like dial treatment. This is the manufacturer’s account of the design, rather than an independent assessment.

The black-and-beige version is reference RSV04.SN/136.BL. RESERVOIR and Monochrome also described a silver-and-black variant, RSV04.SN/136.SI, at launch. The available descriptions establish the color and reference differences, but not which dial is easier to read or whether either variant is currently available.

There is a discrepancy in the base-caliber code printed in the two sources: RESERVOIR lists “LJP-LC01,” while Monochrome gives “LJP-L1C0.” Both identify the movement as the RSV-Bi120; the available information does not clarify whether the differing base-code spellings are equivalent.

What “hands-on” can—and cannot—tell you here
Monochrome’s April 2022 launch coverage included photographs and specifications, but the available material does not establish firsthand testing for this article. It supports describing the watch’s layout and manufacturer-listed components, not making claims about wrist comfort, timekeeping accuracy, tactile finishing, or real-world chronograph performance. Those points require direct inspection or testing.
