The Ressence TYPE 5 L is the oil-filled TYPE 5 with a luminous display: its engraved indications use blue and green Super-LumiNova. The “L” stands for “Luminescent.” The 2024 launch combines that treatment with the model’s moving orbital display for hours, minutes, a 90-second runner and oil temperature.
What does the “L” add to the TYPE 5?
It adds blue and green Super-LumiNova to the engraved indications on the dial. Ressence describes the dial as convex Grade 5 titanium, carrying three eccentric biaxial satellites. The L is therefore the luminous variant of the oil-filled TYPE 5, rather than a different display concept.
The maker’s founder described the watch as having “superior legibility,” but that is a characterization, not a published independent measurement. The specifications establish the luminous materials and display layout; they do not quantify visibility in particular lighting or underwater conditions.
How does the oil-filled orbital display work?
Instead of presenting its indications on conventional fixed hands, TYPE 5 uses Ressence’s ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System): moving discs carry the time indications across the dial. The official TYPE 5 L listing names hours, minutes, a 90-second runner and oil temperature. Ressence says the Type 5 ROCS comprises 142 components, including the main and sub-discs.

The upper display chamber is filled with 3.57 ml of oil. Ressence’s explanation of the architecture centers on a customized self-winding base calibre driving the minute axle, while the other temporal indications are arranged on moving discs. The oil-filled chamber is a defining part of the display’s presentation; it should not be taken as evidence of independently tested underwater legibility.

These are manufacturer-published specifications. The stated 10 ATM / 100 m rating is Ressence’s wording; it is not an independent dive-test result. Check the watch’s exact buckle and dimensions before assuming a third-party strap will fit.

Price: current listing versus 2024 launch price
Ressence’s TYPE 5 L product page listed the watch at €45,700 including VAT when checked on October 8, 2026. A July 3, 2024 launch report gave the original price as CHF 34,500 before local sales taxes. Those figures refer to different dates, currencies and tax contexts; the historical Swiss-franc figure is not a conversion of the current euro listing. Prices and tax treatment can vary by market and change over time.
