What is the Ressence Type 9 Scattering Sun?
The Armoury names the watch “TYPE 9 Scattering Sun” and lists the technical reference as “T9 ARM Scattering Sun Watch.” Ressence’s collaboration page calls it “TYPE 9 THE ARMOURY,” while launch coverage also uses “Type 9 ARM Scattering Sun.” Here, Type 9 Scattering Sun refers to this same limited edition.
The Armoury describes a 20-piece edition. Its product listing gives a price of USD 19,000; the page does not say whether taxes are included. Fratello’s September 10, 2025 launch report gave the same price excluding taxes and said it was available exclusively through The Armoury at that time. The Armoury page showed the watch as unavailable when checked on October 7, 2026. That is a snapshot of the listing, not proof of permanent discontinuation or an explanation of whether units might return.
Why give a contemporary Type 9 a dressier treatment?
The collaboration sets tailoring-inspired details against Ressence’s unconventional time display. The polished, fluted titanium bezel and chocolate suede strap lend the watch a more formal visual vocabulary, while its orbital indicators remain unmistakably modern. The Armoury says the bezel’s name, “Scattering Sun,” refers to the way its fluting scatters light in sunshine.

Ressence frames the partnership as a meeting of sartorial detail and mechanical clarity. Mark Cho, owner of The Armoury and Drake’s, said he wanted a watch that could live with a suit, with restrained details that echo fine clothing. Ressence founder Benoît Mintiens said The Armoury encouraged the brand to explore proportions and details it might not have considered alone. These are the collaborators’ stated aims; whether the design feels dressy or restrained is ultimately a matter of taste.

These are specifications listed by The Armoury, not independent measurements. The listing establishes the supplied strap’s 20 mm-to-18 mm sizing, but not third-party strap compatibility. Before ordering an alternative, confirm lug width, buckle width, strap length and fit with the seller.
How the orbital display and movement work
The watch shows hours and minutes through Ressence’s patented ROCS 9 (Ressence Orbital Convex System) module. The Armoury says a customized automatic base calibre drives the module through its minute axle. The display’s orbital arrangement is part of the watch’s design, rather than a conventional set of hands rotating around a central dial.

The Armoury lists a 36-hour power reserve, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, 31 jewels, 20 gears and four ball bearings. Fratello’s September 10, 2025 report identifies the underlying movement as based on an ETA 2892-2; that specific base-calibre attribution comes from Fratello, while The Armoury uses the broader description “customised automatic base calibre.”

How to wind and set a crownless Type 9
There is no conventional crown. The Armoury specifies manual winding over 12 degrees and says the watch is set via the caseback. Fratello also describes winding and setting at the caseback. Follow the manufacturer or retailer’s operating guidance for the correct handling; do not assume the bezel is a crown or setting control.

The Armoury lists water resistance at 1 ATM. Hodinkee gives a 10 m figure and describes the watch as splash-resistant; Fratello also calls it splash-resistant. These descriptions support cautious everyday splash exposure, not swimming or diving. The sources do not establish a higher-use water rating.

Price and availability: what the listing establishes
The Armoury’s USD 19,000 listing was marked unavailable on October 7, 2026, and does not specify whether its price includes taxes. Fratello reported USD 19,000 excluding taxes at launch on September 10, 2025. The older launch report cannot establish present inventory, and the current listing alone does not explain if or when stock may return. No other seller’s current availability is established here.
For context, the edition is limited to 20 pieces according to The Armoury. That number describes the stated edition size; it does not indicate how many remain for sale.

A useful comparison should stay with documented differences rather than assume this edition is automatically more comfortable, valuable or desirable. Check the other watch’s published figures and details across the same categories:
- Case: diameter, height and weight, if specified.
- Display and movement: module, base calibre attribution, winding and setting method, and stated power reserve.
- Design: dial finish and colour, bezel treatment, strap material and dimensions.
- Use: stated water resistance and its practical limits.
- Edition and cost: edition size, price, tax treatment and confirmed current availability.
The published information cited here documents the Scattering Sun and its launch context, but does not provide a systematic contemporary comparison with other Type 9 models.
