Historical retail prices reported for the model ranged from €397,656 to €450,500 including VAT; a red example later sold for $762,000 at Christie’s in June 2026. Those figures describe different watches and different kinds of prices, not a current retail quote.
What makes the RM 022 Aerodyne distinctive?
The RM 022’s defining feature is not simply its exposed movement. Richard Mille describes a titanium exterior framework paired with a honeycomb baseplate made from orthorhombic titanium aluminide and carbon nanofibre. The honeycomb pattern is therefore part of the movement’s structural design, rather than a decorative dial motif. The result is a watch whose visual identity comes from the architecture beneath the hands as much as from its tourbillon.
It is a manual-winding watch, and its functions include hours, minutes, dual-time indication, a tourbillon, a power-reserve indicator and a torque indicator. Richard Mille specifies a 70-hour power reserve when fully wound. The torque display gives a visual indication of mainspring tension, showing another aspect of the movement’s operating state rather than merely adding another time display. How the crown selector works
A pusher in the centre of the crown selects the crown’s function. Richard Mille describes three positions: W for winding, N for neutral and H for hand-setting. The maker says the arrangement was inspired by racing-car gearboxes. It lets the wearer choose the intended function through the selector rather than treating the crown as a single-purpose control.

The official description identifies a dual-time indicator, but does not provide a step-by-step setting procedure for that display. It is safest to treat the selector’s documented W, N and H positions as the confirmed operating information, rather than assume a particular procedure for adjusting the second time indication.
Dimensions and wrist presence
Monochrome Watches’ hands-on article reports case dimensions of 48 mm by 39.7 mm and a maximum thickness of 13.85 mm. These are figures reported by that article, not new measurements here. The case’s broad, tonneau-like footprint and visible movement give the RM 022 a substantial presence; the listed width alone does not capture how the openworked construction shapes its appearance.

Historical retail prices and a 2026 auction result
Monochrome’s article lists the following historical retail prices, including VAT. They are article-era figures, not current retail offers or a guarantee of present availability.

For a separate point of reference, Christie’s June 2026 Important Watches results report that a red RM 022 “Aerodyne” Dual Time Zone sold for $762,000. That is one realized auction result for a specific example—not a current asking price, a retail price, or a general valuation for every RM 022.

Those amounts should not be read as a direct price progression. Retail list figures and a realized auction result measure different things, and the watches may differ in material, edition, condition, completeness and provenance. Christie’s has documented a blue Quartz TPT example, and Phillips has documented a red Quartz TPT limited-edition example; neither should be treated as interchangeable with the red watch in Christie’s 2026 results. What to check when comparing RM 022 examples
A meaningful comparison starts with the exact watch, not just the RM 022 name. Before interpreting an asking price or auction result, establish:

- Reference and material: identify the precise reference and case material or treatment, such as titanium, gold or Quartz TPT.
- Edition and production context: check whether the watch is a limited edition or has other documented distinctions.
- Condition and completeness: assess the state of the watch and whether its accompanying items are present.
- Provenance and venue: consider documented ownership history and the auction house or seller, along with the sale date.
These details matter because a single auction result cannot establish a universal value for a model with materially different versions and individual histories.

Is the RM 022 the same as a later Aerodyne model?
No. The RM 022 is the specific manual-winding tourbillon model discussed here. Later watches such as the RM 21-02 are separate models, not alternate names for the RM 022. When comparing listings or auction records, confirm the reference rather than relying on the shared Aerodyne name.
