The Richard Mille RM 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail had a reported launch retail price of CHF 900,000 excluding taxes, according to Monochrome Watches’ 2021 review. That is a historical launch figure—not a current quote or proof of what the watch sells for today. Richard Mille lists the model as a limited edition of 106 pieces.
This is a source-based overview rather than a firsthand account. It explains what the launch price covered, how the watch connects to the McLaren Speedtail, and what can—and cannot—be established about its present value.
How much did the RM 40-01 cost new?
Monochrome Watches reported a launch retail price of CHF 900,000 excluding taxes in its 2021 coverage. This is the documented launch-era figure; it should not be treated as a current retail offer or as a price inclusive of taxes. Read Monochrome Watches’ review and specifications.
What is the RM 40-01 worth now?
A reliable current value cannot be established from the available listing evidence. Chrono24’s RM 40-01 page shows price on request, which is an asking-price format—not a completed sale or a public transaction record. It does not support a defensible numerical valuation or a conclusion about appreciation or depreciation since launch. See RM 40-01 listings on Chrono24.

What is the RM 40-01?
The RM 40-01 is an automatic tourbillon developed by Richard Mille around the McLaren Speedtail. The manufacturer lists its in-house CRMT4 calibre and a limited edition of 106 pieces. Its functions include hours, minutes, a variable-geometry rotor, an oversize date, a power-reserve indicator and a function selector. Richard Mille also highlights grade 5 titanium in movement components. See Richard Mille’s model details.
How the Speedtail shaped the design
Richard Mille links the case’s teardrop silhouette to the Speedtail’s aerodynamic form. The brand says the bezel indentations echo openings in the car’s bonnet, while the pushers take inspiration from air outlets behind its front wheels. The result is a watch whose automotive connection is expressed in the case as well as in its name.

A listing or brand-wide edition figure cannot establish the authenticity, condition or service status of an individual watch. Richard Mille’s magazine advises buyers to work with official representatives and cautions that unofficial sellers may not provide the same service or support. Its guidance is general; it does not authenticate any specific listing. Read Richard Mille Magazine 4: Second Hand.
