The Longines Record L2.820.8.92.2 makes a classic dress-watch formula more expressive with an 18-karat rose-gold case, a blue sunray dial and COSC chronometer certification. Cameron Wong’s 2018 hands-on review praised its elegant look and considered wearability; Longines’ current US listing adds updated specifications, including up to 72 hours of power reserve.
What is the Longines Record L2.820.8.92.2?
It is a 38.5 mm automatic dress watch in Longines’ Record collection. The reference pairs an 18-karat rose-gold case with a blue sunray dial, a date display and a matching blue alligator strap. Longines’ US product page lists a triple safety folding clasp and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the underside.

The appeal is the contrast between a restrained, traditional case shape and more noticeable materials: precious metal and a dial whose blue finish can shift in appearance with the light. The result is more vivid than a conventional understated dress watch, without changing the basic formal-watch proposition.
How does the dial and case look on the wrist?
A blue dial that can look almost purple
In his 24 April 2018 hands-on review for Time+Tide, Cameron Wong wondered, “That dial: is it blue? Or maybe purple?” He reported that its apparent color changed with the viewing angle. That is a subjective impression from his review, rather than a claim that the dial changes color or a guarantee of how it will look under every light.

Rose gold, with a classic profile
Wong described the rose-gold version as elegant and not overly heavy, and said its case should suit a range of wrist sizes. Those are his impressions from wearing the watch, not measured fit results. His intended wearer was someone who likes a Calatrava-style case and classic dress-watch design but wants a more expressive precious-metal option and values accuracy.
What are the movement and current specifications?
Longines’ current US listing identifies the watch as automatic and specifies a monocrystalline silicon balance-spring. Longines says the movement is COSC chronometer certified. The brand’s 16 November 2017 release said that all pieces in the Record collection were COSC-certified chronometers and that the movement included a single-crystal silicon balance spring; its 21 March 2018 release announced rose-gold and steel/rose-gold variations and described them as COSC-certified.

The power-reserve figures differ: Longines’ current US page says up to 72 hours, while Wong’s 2018 review reported 64 hours. The cited sources do not explain the discrepancy, so neither figure should be treated as a correction to the other. The prices are also not directly comparable: one is a US listing observed in 2026, and the other is a historical Australian price from 2018.
Is it suitable for swimming?
Longines currently lists 3-bar water resistance, while the 2018 review gives a rating of 30 metres. The sources establish those ratings but do not provide swimming guidance for this reference. They therefore do not establish that swimming is suitable.

Who is this watch for?
Wong’s framing points to a buyer who wants a classic dress-watch silhouette but would rather have a colored dial and solid rose gold than a more subdued combination. The COSC certification is also part of the watch’s accuracy-focused appeal. It is less suited to someone choosing primarily for a sports-watch role: its dress styling is central, and the cited water-resistance information does not establish swimming use.
Quick Recap
What should you check before buying?
- Confirm the reference: the model discussed here is L2.820.8.92.2, with a 38.5 mm 18-karat rose-gold case.
- Check the live regional listing: the $9,400 figure is the US price displayed on 8 October 2026, not a global price or a promise that the price and availability will remain unchanged.
- Compare movement specifications carefully: the 64-hour reserve comes from the 2018 review; Longines’ current US listing states up to 72 hours.
- Consider the look in person if possible: Wong reported that the dial’s appearance shifts with the viewing angle, but that effect is subjective and lighting-dependent.
