What is the RM 50-03 McLaren F1?
Introduced in 2017, the RM 50-03 was developed by Richard Mille in collaboration with McLaren F1. Richard Mille’s model page identifies the movement as the RM50-03 calibre and describes a hand-wound tourbillon movement with a split-seconds chronograph. The model was limited to 75 pieces.
At launch, McLaren said the 75 numbered watches would be available only through Richard Mille boutiques, and that each would include a 1:5 scale model of the 2017 McLaren-Honda car. That is launch-era information, not confirmation of present availability.
How much does the RM 50-03 weigh?
Richard Mille gives the complete watch’s weight as less than 40 grams, including the strap. Separately, the brand calls the movement a 7-gram movement. Those figures describe different things: the 7-gram claim is for the movement, not the cased watch.

The brand presented the model as the lightest mechanical chronograph at the time of its release. That is a historical, manufacturer-stated record claim, not a current independent comparison of all chronographs.
What makes it so lightweight?
Richard Mille attributes the low weight to a combination of materials and movement construction. The brand identifies grade 5 titanium, Carbon TPT and Graph TPT, alongside extensive skeletonisation of the movement. Its model description says the baseplate and bridges use Carbon TPT.

Graph TPT is described by Richard Mille as an improved form of Carbon TPT developed in collaboration with the University of Manchester, McLaren Applied Technologies and North Thin Ply Technology. McLaren’s launch coverage explained the material context through a statement from Group COO Jonathan Neale: “When people talk about graphene, they’re not talking about a bulk material – you don’t get blocks or rolls of graphene – it exists at an atomic level, but can used to strengthen, toughen, and lighten carbon-fibre composites.”
Richard Mille also reports in-house casing shock tests of 5,000 g. This is the manufacturer’s stated test result; it is not an independently validated result.

What functions and complications does it have?
The RM 50-03 combines a tourbillon with a split-seconds chronograph and additional indicators. Richard Mille lists these functions:
- Hours and minutes
- Split-seconds chronograph
- 30-minute totaliser
- Power-reserve indicator
- Torque indicator
- Function indicator
The split-seconds mechanism allows two elapsed times to be read during the same timing sequence. The indicators show information beyond the time and chronograph readings, while the tourbillon is part of the hand-wound movement.

What did the RM 50-03 cost?
A 2017 model reference document from the Foundation of Haute Horlogerie trends site lists an indicated price of CHF 980,000 excluding VAT. This is a historical Swiss-franc list figure. It does not establish an exact $1,000,000 price: no exchange-rate date is supplied, and the tax basis differs.
