Lost one AirPods Pro earbud? The correct replacement depends on more than choosing “right” or “left.” First check Find My, then match the surviving earbud’s exact generation and A-number model identifier. Apple is the lowest-risk route; a used or refurbished single earbud can be cheaper, but only if its side, generation, case compatibility, account status, condition, and return policy are verified.
If you lost one AirPods Pro earbud, do not buy the first “right” or “left” replacement you find. First use Find My, then identify the exact AirPods Pro generation and model number. Your safest purchase is an official Apple replacement; a reputable used or refurbished single-earbud listing can cost less, but it must match the side, generation, model family, charging case, and account status.
Which replacement option is right for you?
| Option | Best for | Main advantage | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official Apple replacement | Lost earbud; buyers prioritizing authenticity | Genuine Apple service pathway and compatibility support | Price and availability vary by model, location, taxes, and parts supply |
| Apple Authorized Service Provider | People who want local service | Apple-authorized service option | Provider availability and estimates can vary |
| AppleCare+ service | Accidental damage or an eligible battery issue | Current U.S. accidental-damage service fee is $29 for AirPods and Beats | Does not cover equipment that is lost or stolen |
| Used or refurbished single earbud | Buyers seeking a potentially lower-cost replacement | Replaces only the missing side | Requires careful checks for model, account lock, battery, condition, and returns |
| Replacement case or ear tips | A damaged case or poor fit | Solves a different component problem | Neither is a substitute for a missing earbud |
1. Try Find My before ordering anything
Open Find My and check the AirPods entry before spending money. The missing earbud may still be nearby, in a pocket, under furniture, or somewhere it was last used. Apple’s AirPods support guidance directs users to Find My for locating missing AirPods or the charging case. If the missing component cannot be recovered, Apple provides a replacement route for an individual AirPod or case.
If the earbud is out of battery or outside the range needed for live location or sound playback, Find My may show only a last known location. Treat that result as a lead rather than proof that the earbud is still there.

2. Identify the exact AirPods Pro generation
“AirPods Pro” is not one universal replacement category. The surviving earbud has a model number printed on its underside; it begins with the letter A. Record that number before searching. The charging case’s model and connector are useful cross-checks, especially with AirPods Pro 2.
| Generation or version | Earbud model numbers | Introduced | Important buying distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| AirPods Pro 1 | A2083 and A2084 | 2019 | Do not mix with AirPods Pro 2 or AirPods Pro 3 |
| AirPods Pro 2 with MagSafe Charging Case and Lightning connector | A2931, A2699, and A2698 | 2022 | Lightning-case version |
| AirPods Pro 2 with MagSafe Charging Case and USB-C connector | A3047, A3048, and A3049 | 2023 | USB-C-case version |
| AirPods Pro 3 | A3063, A3064, and A3065 | 2025 | Separate generation; verify the exact listing carefully |
The model number on the surviving earbud is the most useful starting point. Do not rely only on the product’s appearance, the year you bought it, or a marketplace title. For AirPods Pro 2, also check whether your case has a Lightning or USB-C connector. A seller may describe a replacement as “AirPods Pro 2” without making the connector or exact model family clear.
3. The official Apple replacement route
Apple explicitly supports purchasing a replacement AirPod or charging case. Start an AirPods repair or replacement request through Apple, select the relevant model, and follow the estimate and service flow. Depending on your location, Apple may offer service at an Apple Store, through an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or by mail.
Apple’s public repair flow uses model selection and a personalized estimate rather than publishing one universal replacement-earbud price. The amount can vary with the exact model, service type, location, taxes, and parts availability. Check the live estimate for your own country or region instead of relying on a price quoted for another model or market.
Apple says equipment supplied during service may contain new or previously used genuine Apple parts that have passed Apple’s functional requirements. Apple also states that AirPods service and replacement parts are guaranteed for 90 days or the remaining term of the Apple warranty, whichever is longer. That makes the official route the best choice when predictable compatibility, genuine parts, and official support matter more than finding the lowest possible price.

4. When AppleCare+ helps—and when it does not
AppleCare+ is not a lost-earbud insurance policy. AppleCare+ covers accidental damage from handling under the applicable plan terms, while its terms exclude replacement of covered equipment that is lost or stolen.
For a covered accidental-damage claim in the United States, Apple’s current fee schedule lists a $29 service fee for accidental damage to AirPods and Beats. The fee and plan terms can vary by country, so verify the coverage attached to your device before assuming the fee applies.
Apple’s AirPods service information also describes benefits such as repairs for drops and spills and battery service when capacity falls below 80%, subject to the plan’s terms and eligibility. Sign in to check whether your particular AirPods Pro set has AppleCare+ and whether the incident qualifies.
The standard one-year Apple Limited Warranty is different again. It generally covers manufacturing defects, not accidental damage, loss, theft, or normal battery depletion. Consumer-law rights may provide additional protection depending on where you live.
5. Check Apple’s AirPods Pro sound-issue program if the problem is not loss
If your earbud is present but has crackling, static, or another qualifying sound problem, check Apple’s service program for affected AirPods Pro units before buying a replacement. Apple says certain affected left, right, or both earbuds may qualify for service at no charge, and that the program covers eligible units for three years after the unit’s first retail sale.
This is a defect-specific service path, not a general lost-earbud replacement program. It applies only when the symptoms and unit meet Apple’s criteria.

6. Buying a used or refurbished single AirPods Pro earbud
A marketplace or specialty seller can be a reasonable lower-cost alternative. Individual replacement earbuds are sold as used, refurbished, cleaned, or seller-tested products, including listings for particular left or right sides and specific AirPods Pro generations. For example, a specialty listing may identify a single lightly used and cleaned AirPods Pro 3 left earbud by model A3064 and include setup instructions.
That demonstrates that single-earbud replacements are a real product category, but it does not prove that every marketplace listing is genuine, compatible, available, or in good condition. A product labeled “OEM,” “original,” or “genuine” is not automatically Apple-certified.
If you shop for an AirPods Pro replacement earbud, narrow the search as soon as you know the details. Useful searches include right AirPods Pro replacement, left AirPods Pro replacement, or a generation-specific phrase such as AirPods Pro 2 USB-C replacement earbud. Compare the listing against the checklist below before paying.
Third-party replacement checklist
- Side: Confirm that it is the left or right earbud you actually lost.
- Generation: Confirm AirPods Pro 1, AirPods Pro 2 Lightning, AirPods Pro 2 USB-C, or AirPods Pro 3.
- Model number: Match the replacement’s stated model number or compatibility range with the surviving earbud.
- Case compatibility: Confirm that the earbud is intended to work with your existing charging case.
- Condition: Determine whether it is new, used, refurbished, cleaned, sanitized, or seller-tested.
- Battery condition: Look for a specific battery guarantee or return protection. A used earbud may function but have substantially reduced battery life.
- Apple Account status: Ask whether the previous owner removed the earbud from their Apple Account when applicable. An account association can prevent normal setup.
- Returns: Prefer a practical return window that covers pairing, battery, charging, microphone, transparency mode, and noise-cancellation checks.
- Included items: Check whether the package contains one earbud only, or also includes ear tips, packaging, instructions, or other accessories.
Independent sellers may offer their own warranties, but Apple states that only repairs performed directly by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider are covered by Apple’s Limited Warranty and AppleCare plans. A third-party seller’s warranty is therefore separate from Apple coverage.

Please contact us if you have any pairing issues. **Need your patience for the pairing. It might take a longer time!!
7. Pairing and mismatch problems to expect
A replacement earbud may need to be set up with the surviving earbud and your existing charging case. Apple warns that an AirPods Mismatch alert can appear when the earbuds are different generations, belong to someone else, or remain associated with another Apple Account.
After receiving a replacement, place it with the surviving earbud in the charging case and follow Apple’s setup instructions for a replacement AirPod. If setup fails, do not immediately assume the earbud is defective. Work through these possibilities:
- Wrong side: The listing may have shipped a left earbud when you needed a right one, or vice versa.
- Wrong generation: Similar-looking AirPods Pro earbuds are not interchangeable merely because they fit physically.
- Wrong model family: AirPods Pro 2 Lightning and USB-C versions require particular attention to model and case compatibility.
- Previous account association: Contact the seller if the earbud remains associated with another person’s Apple Account.
- Case mismatch: Verify that the existing case is compatible with the replacement and has enough charge for setup.
- Bad listing or defective unit: Use the seller’s return process if the model matches but pairing, charging, ANC, transparency, microphone, or battery performance is unacceptable.
A low price is not a bargain if the earbud cannot pair with your set or has poor battery health. Return protection is especially valuable when buying used.

9. Accessories that solve different problems
If both earbuds still work, the right accessory may be more appropriate than a replacement earbud.
Ear tips
AirPods Pro replacement ear tips can help with fit, comfort, hygiene, or a damaged tip. Foam tips and silicone AirPods Pro ear tips are accessory options, but they do not replace a missing or nonfunctional earbud. Confirm that the tips fit your exact AirPods Pro generation.

If you lost or damaged the case but still have one or both earbuds, look for an AirPods Pro replacement charging case matched to the exact generation. AirPods Pro 2 Lightning and USB-C cases are not interchangeable search categories. A replacement case does not solve a missing right or left earbud by itself.
Cleaning tools
If the issue is muffled sound, blocked microphones, or unreliable charging rather than loss, an AirPods cleaning kit or wireless-earbud cleaning tools may be useful. Clean carefully and avoid treating cleaning as a fix for water damage, battery failure, or a missing component.
What not to buy
- A generic Bluetooth earbud: It may play audio, but it is not a replacement AirPod and will not restore the missing side of your AirPods Pro system.
- A different AirPods Pro generation: Do not mix generations because the earbuds look alike.
- A listing with no model information: “Fits AirPods Pro” is too vague when the generation and case version matter.
- An account-locked earbud: Confirm the previous owner removed it from their Apple Account when applicable.
- A no-return used earbud: You need time to test pairing, charging, battery life, microphones, ANC, and transparency mode.
- A universal Apple price claim: Apple’s estimate is model- and location-dependent, so verify the live quote.
Best decision by situation
- You may have merely misplaced the earbud: Use Find My first.
- You lost the earbud and want the lowest compatibility risk: Request an official Apple replacement or use an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
- You damaged the earbud and have AppleCare+: Check eligibility for accidental-damage service; do not classify the claim as loss.
- You lost the earbud and want to spend less: Consider a reputable used or refurbished single-earbud seller, but only after matching side, generation, model, case, account status, condition, and returns.
- The earbud is present but has qualifying sound problems: Check Apple’s AirPods Pro sound-issue service program.
- You lost the case instead: Compare an exact-generation replacement case, not a single earbud.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I replace one AirPods Pro earbud with any other AirPods Pro earbud?
No. AirPods Pro 1, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3 should not be mixed simply because they look similar. Match the surviving earbud’s generation and model number, and check case compatibility before ordering.
Does AppleCare+ cover a lost AirPods Pro earbud?
AppleCare+ covers eligible accidental damage under the applicable plan terms, but AppleCare+ terms exclude equipment that is lost or stolen. A lost earbud normally requires a replacement purchase or service request.
Recommended Free Tools
Is a used or refurbished single AirPods Pro earbud safe to buy?
Yes, but verify the left/right side, exact generation, A-number model family, charging-case compatibility, previous Apple Account status, battery condition, and return policy. A seller’s “OEM” or “original” wording alone does not establish Apple certification.
How do I know which AirPods Pro replacement earbud to order?
Start with the model number printed on the surviving earbud. AirPods Pro 2 also has distinct Lightning and USB-C case versions, so check the case connector as a second confirmation.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: For a lost right or left AirPods Pro earbud, identify the model number before buying. Choose Apple when authenticity and compatibility support are the priorities; choose a used or refurbished single earbud only when the side, generation, model, case, account status, condition, and return policy all match. AppleCare+ can help with covered accidental damage, but it does not cover loss or theft.
