The 2023 Rolex Day-Date 36 releases took two markedly different design turns: a champlevé enamel dial arranged as a jigsaw, and three decorative-stone dials that evoke the 1970s. The puzzle versions replace the usual day and date display with words and emojis; the stone-dial versions retain the conventional calendar. Time+Tide Watches reported six references in total, all in precious-metal cases and matching President bracelets.
Two different directions for the Day-Date 36
Time+Tide Watches introduced these models on March 31, 2023, in the Watches & Wonders release context. One group turns the dial into a colorful puzzle; the other puts decorative stone at the center of a more vintage-looking design. The distinction is more than visual: only the stone-dial watches retain the familiar day and date indications.
The puzzle dial replaces the usual calendar display
The puzzle versions use champlevé enamel to depict a partly assembled jigsaw. Thin precious-metal wire separates the colored pieces and matches the case. Time+Tide says Rolex presented each piece as representing a key moment in life.
Instead of the conventional day and date indications, the dial spells out seven words: Happy, Eternity, Gratitude, Peace, Faith, Love, and Hope. It also includes 31 exclusive emojis. Colored baguette-cut sapphires serve as hour markers.

Time+Tide reports that each puzzle watch has a matching President bracelet with a concealed Crownclasp. The article does not describe these references as having the standard spelled-out weekday and date windows.
Three decorative stones recall 1970s styling
The second group pairs a stone dial with a precious-metal case and bracelet. Time+Tide connects the styling to the 1970s, without offering a model-by-model historical comparison.

Unlike the puzzle dials, the stone-dial versions retain hours, minutes, seconds, day, and date, according to Time+Tide’s 2023 specifications table.

Rolex’s current Day-Date family page confirms that the collection remains represented on its website and is available exclusively in precious metals, but it does not verify current availability or pricing for these six specific references. Rolex describes the Day-Date family as showing the date and weekday spelled out in separate windows. The brand says the model was introduced in 1956 and that its weekday display has been available in 26 languages since 1973. Those family-wide details apply to the conventional Day-Date display, not the puzzle watches’ word-and-emoji dial.
