Which Rolex Day-Date has the white dial and deconstructed Roman numerals?
It is the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36 in 18 ct yellow gold, with a white lacquer dial, faceted deconstructed Roman numerals and faceted index markers. The 2024 Rolex announcement describes this configuration; Fratello’s contemporary hands-on identifies it as reference 128238.
The word “deconstructed” describes the numeral design: rather than conventional, fully formed Roman characters, the dial uses faceted elements arranged to suggest them. This is a different marker style from simple stick indices. The dial also includes faceted index markers, so the overall layout is not numerals alone.
What makes the dial distinctive?
Rolex says each marker is crafted individually in a special workshop and undergoes no fewer than seven operations before it is applied to the dial. The process and faceted surfaces give the numerals and indices their sculptural appearance against the white lacquer background. Rolex’s 2024 Day-Date announcement describes the dial and its markers.

How it differs from the white-dial Day-Date 40
Rolex also announced a white-dial Day-Date 40, but it is a separate configuration—not the 40 mm version of the same lacquer-dial design. Rolex describes it with a pearlized white mother-of-pearl dial, diamond-set hour markers and an 18 ct white-gold case.

These configurations are described in Rolex’s 2024 announcement. If you are identifying a watch from a listing or photograph, check the case size, metal and dial material as well as the marker design; “white dial” alone does not distinguish them.

Day-Date function, movement and accuracy
The Day-Date launched in 1956. Rolex says it was the first calendar wristwatch to display the weekday spelled out in full, alongside the date, and that the collection has been made only in precious metals. Its day-and-date displays remain the defining practical features of the line. Rolex’s Day-Date collection information gives the history and its stated performance standard.
Rolex’s 2024 video description identifies calibre 3255 in Day-Date 36 and Day-Date 40 models and lists the displayed functions as day, date, hours, minutes and seconds. Rolex states that a finished Superlative Chronometer has a rate deviation “of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day.” That is the manufacturer’s stated tolerance, not an independent measurement of this particular watch.
