The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 116595RBOW, presented in 2018, paired the Daytona’s racing-chronograph layout with an unusually vivid gem-set design: a rainbow of baguette sapphires around the bezel, diamonds across the case sides and coloured sapphire hour markers. “Craziest” is subjective, but the combination makes this specific Everose-gold Daytona one of the most visually distinctive watches Rolex presented that year.
What is the Rolex Rainbow Daytona Everose 116595RBOW?
Rolex identified the 2018 watch as the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona, case reference 116595 RBOW, fitted to bracelet reference 78595 A. Its 40 mm case and Oyster bracelet are made of 18 ct Everose gold. Rolex’s 2018 specifications describe a watch that retains the recognizable Daytona form while adding a substantial amount of coloured and brilliant-cut stones.
What makes its design so unusual?
The defining feature is the bezel: 36 baguette-cut sapphires set in a rainbow gradation. Rolex also set 56 brilliant-cut diamonds on the middle case. On the black lacquer dial, 11 baguette-cut rainbow-coloured sapphires serve as hour markers; the counters are made of 18 ct pink Gold Crystals. Together, these details make the watch’s colour treatment a built-in part of the case and dial rather than a change of strap or a single accent.
The bracelet is an Everose Oyster design with an Oysterlock folding safety clasp and Easylink 5 mm comfort extension. Rolex listed water resistance of 100 metres (330 feet) for the 2018 model. That rating is a specification, not a reason to treat a gem-set luxury watch as suitable for every water activity.

How does the 2018 model work as a chronograph?
Under the gemstones, reference 116595RBOW uses Rolex calibre 4130, an automatic mechanical chronograph movement with a column wheel and vertical clutch. Rolex specified a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz), 44 rubies and approximately 72 hours of power reserve. The central chronograph hand measures elapsed seconds, with Rolex describing its indication as accurate to within 1/8 of a second; a 30-minute counter sits at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock.
Rolex’s 2018 presentation says this reference received Superlative Chronometer certification, combining COSC certification with Rolex certification after casing. This is the movement and certification information for the 2018 reference—not a specification to infer from newer Daytonas.

Why is a rainbow bezel on a Daytona a contrast?
The Cosmograph Daytona was introduced in 1963 for motor-racing professionals. Its tachymeter scale is designed to help determine average speed over a measured distance. Rolex’s official Daytona overview calls it “the ultimate timing tool thanks to its precision and reliability”—the brand’s own description, rather than an independent performance finding.
The 116595RBOW puts that functional chronograph layout alongside a highly decorative bezel and gem-set case. That tension is the point of the watch: it is still recognizably a Daytona in its timing display and movement, but its rainbow stones make visual impact at least as central to its identity as motorsport heritage.

How does calibre 4130 differ from the current Daytona overview?
Rolex’s current general Daytona overview describes calibre 4131. The 2018 reference 116595RBOW, by contrast, is specified with calibre 4130. The newer movement information is useful for understanding the current Daytona line, but it should not be retroactively applied to this 2018 watch.

At launch, Hodinkee’s March 23, 2018 coverage listed the price as “On Request”; that does not establish a definite retail launch price. A later, specific result is available from Phillips: one 2018 example sold for CHF 604,800 in 2022. That is the result for one auction lot, not a current asking price, a representative valuation or evidence of price appreciation.

Phillips’ lot record describes the sold example as 18K pink gold, set with diamonds and sapphires, with calibre 4130 and a 40 mm diameter. Sotheby’s has also catalogued an example with 18K Everose gold, diamonds, multicoloured sapphires, calibre 4130 and a 40 mm case. These catalogues document individual examples; they do not establish current availability or a single universal configuration.
For any comparison between examples, check the exact reference and dial and bracelet configuration, along with condition, provenance, paperwork and included accessories. Auction date, currency and venue matter too: an isolated historical result cannot establish a market-wide price or trend.
Is the 116595RBOW rare or currently available?
The cited records establish that the reference exists and was presented in 2018, and that auction houses have catalogued examples. They do not establish a production total, whether the reference remains in current production, its current price or present availability. Without a production figure, a numerical rarity claim would be unsupported.
