What is the Rolex Explorer Everest artwork?
It is a hand-drawn horological illustration by Tamás Fehér, presented in a 2021 aBlogtoWatch Store announcement by David Bredan. Fehér drew the work on a clean sheet of paper and spent over a week making it, according to Bredan’s announcement.
The image depicts a Rolex Explorer reference 1016, with Everest rising from the middle of the dial. It is not a photograph, an actual watch dial, or a newly released Rolex model.
How the drawing combines the Explorer and Everest
The 2021 announcement connects the Explorer’s history to the 1953 Everest ascent and describes the reference 1016 as a 36 mm model that debuted in 1963. Those historical details are reported by the announcement and are not independently established here from primary historical records.

In the illustration, the familiar watch design frames the mountain: the announcement describes an Oyster case and bracelet, a black-and-white dial, central hands and a screw-down crown. It also emphasizes Fehér’s rendering of reflections across the metal. The contrast is the point of the composition: a recognizable steel Explorer surrounds a landscape associated with the watch’s origin story, while Everest occupies the place normally reserved for the dial’s central field.

The announcement offered two artwork formats. Its prices are historical listings from April 16, 2021, not current quotes; the source did not give exact physical measurements.
