How do the movements and accuracy claims differ?
Rolex: high-frequency mechanical calibre 7135
Rolex says calibre 7135 is entirely developed and manufactured by the brand and uses its Dynapulse escapement. It runs at 5 Hz, or 36,000 beats per hour; Rolex says the seconds hand makes ten jumps each second, allowing the dial track to show half-seconds. The stated power reserve is approximately 66 hours. Rolex’s −2/+2 seconds-per-day figure applies to the finished watch’s Superlative Chronometer certification, not an independently measured promise for every watch in ordinary use. Grand Seiko: Spring Drive calibre 9RB2
Grand Seiko describes Spring Drive as mainspring-powered and electronically regulated. For calibre 9RB2, the brand states accuracy of ±20 seconds per year, approximately ±3 seconds per month, when worn at temperatures from 5°C to 35°C. Its stated power reserve is approximately 72 hours. These are Grand Seiko specifications, expressed on a different basis from Rolex’s finished-watch daily certification figure; the figures should not be treated as a like-for-like independent test. Choose by movement preference as well as numbers: the Land-Dweller is a high-frequency mechanical watch, while the SLGB005’s Spring Drive combines a mainspring energy source with electronic time regulation. The Grand Seiko offers the longer stated reserve; Rolex publishes a daily finished-watch certification figure, while Grand Seiko publishes an annual rate under specified conditions.
Which case size and design suit your wrist?
Land-Dweller: two diameters and an integrated bracelet
The Land-Dweller comes in 36 mm and 40 mm versions. Its defining visual feature is the integrated Flat Jubilee bracelet, which flows into the Oyster case, paired with a honeycomb-pattern dial and transparent caseback. Rolex connects this integrated-bracelet design to precedents in its 1969 Rolex Quartz and 1974 self-winding Datejust models. The two diameter choices give buyers different starting points, but diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears.

SLGB005: compact 37 mm case and violet dial
The SLGB005 measures 37.0 mm across, 44.3 mm lug-to-lug and 11.4 mm thick, according to Grand Seiko’s official specifications. Its Evolution 9 design uses Ever-Brilliant Steel and a violet gradient dial. Grand Seiko says the dial evokes dawn over frost-covered forests in Japan’s Shinshu region, where its Spring Drive watches are made. The brand describes Ever-Brilliant Steel as corrosion-resistant and brighter in hue than standard stainless steel; those are the manufacturer’s descriptions, not comparative test findings.
For a useful fit comparison, assess case diameter, thickness, lug-to-lug, bracelet shape and clasp adjustment together. If possible, try each version on your wrist: the available official figures do not supply a full set of directly comparable Land-Dweller dimensions.

Rolex lists the Land-Dweller at 100 metres of water resistance; Grand Seiko lists the SLGB005 at 10 bar. Grand Seiko also publishes magnetic resistance of 4,800 A/m. The cited Rolex information does not give a comparable magnetic-resistance number, so it does not support a head-to-head ranking on that measure. Use each brand’s specifications and guidance for the intended conditions rather than inferring an activity guarantee from a pressure rating alone.
How much does the SLGB005 cost, and is it limited?
Grand Seiko’s Japanese release of September 25, 2025 listed a recommended price of ¥1,463,000 including tax and a planned release date of November 8, 2025. The worldwide edition is limited to 1,300 watches, with 700 allocated to Japan. Grand Seiko New Zealand listed a launch price of NZD $18,050. These are historical launch-market prices, not current worldwide quotes; local pricing and availability vary by market. The cited material does not establish a current regional Land-Dweller price, current stock, waiting times or secondary-market values.
