The Rolex Perpetual 1908’s refined look comes from restraint: a clean dial with Arabic numerals at 3, 9 and 12, small seconds at 6, and a domed, fluted bezel. What is the Rolex Perpetual 1908?
The 1908 is a Rolex dress-watch collection introduced as a contemporary expression of the brand’s early Oyster Perpetual design. Rolex says the name refers to 1908, the year the brand was created. The collection’s styling is a deliberate contrast to the more sport-oriented look associated with many Oyster models.

Why does the 1908 look so formal?
A dial with a clear focal point
The dial keeps its arrangement uncluttered: Arabic numerals mark 3, 9 and 12, while a small-seconds subdial sits at 6. The hands and markers provide definition without adding the visual complexity of a chronograph or multiple complications.

A distinctive bezel and transparent back
The bezel combines a domed profile with fluting. On the reverse, a transparent case back exposes the movement rather than concealing it. Rolex describes the visible calibre 7140 as finished with Rolex Côtes de Genève decoration and an openwork yellow-gold oscillating weight.
Precious-metal cases and considered proportions
The US range shown by Rolex includes 18 kt yellow gold, 18 kt white gold and platinum. The case is 39 mm on reference 52508, and Rolex describes the case as approximately one third smaller than models in the Oyster Perpetual collection. That comparison is Rolex’s description, not an independent measurement of how the watch wears.
Which Rolex 1908 configurations are listed in the US?
Rolex’s US collection page lists eight configurations across three case metals. Most use an alligator-leather strap. The yellow-gold reference 52508 is also offered with a Settimo bracelet, made from seven-piece solid links. The platinum model pairs its case with an ice-blue dial featuring a rice-grain guilloché motif.

What movement and specifications does it have?
Rolex equips the 1908 with calibre 7140, a self-winding manufacture movement. The following specifications are published by Rolex; they are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.
- Power reserve: approximately 66 hours, according to Rolex.
- Precision: −2/+2 seconds per day after casing, as specified by Rolex.
- Certification: Superlative Chronometer, according to Rolex.
- Movement features: central hour and minute hands, small seconds, stop-seconds, bidirectional self-winding, a Syloxi silicon hairspring, Paraflex shock absorbers and a Chronergy escapement.
- Water resistance: 50 metres / 165 feet, according to Rolex.
Reference 52508 is listed with a 39 mm 18 kt yellow-gold case, intense white dial, domed and fluted bezel, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and transparent case back. The specification details can vary by reference, so check the individual product page for the configuration you are considering.

Is the Rolex 1908 waterproof?
Rolex lists water resistance of 50 metres / 165 feet. Water resistance is not the same as a guarantee that a watch is suitable for every water activity or remains water-resistant indefinitely. The official product specification does not establish independent test results or the condition of a particular pre-owned watch.
