The report has not been confirmed here by a direct Rolex or Bucherer announcement, so the shutdown should be treated as reported—not as an officially confirmed, completed closure.
What has been reported about Carl F. Bucherer?
Secondary coverage published on 7 February 2025 said Bilanz had reported that Rolex was shutting down Carl F. Bucherer (CFB). The original Bilanz article was not available in the sources reviewed, and no direct company statement confirming the decision’s implementation was located. The reported shutdown is therefore not enough to establish when production or sales might end, or whether they have ended.
How Rolex, Bucherer and Carl F. Bucherer are connected
Bucherer is the watch and jewellery retailer; Carl F. Bucherer is its luxury-watch brand. The European Commission describes the businesses separately, so a report about CFB should not be read as a report that Rolex is closing the Bucherer retail business.
Rolex announced on 24 August 2023 that it had decided to acquire Bucherer. At the time, Rolex said, “The watch retailer will keep its name and continue to operate independently.” That statement concerned Bucherer as a retailer and did not address the future of the Carl F. Bucherer brand. Bucherer’s company history says it has been part of Rolex since 2024.

Timeline: Bucherer and the reported shutdown
- 1888: Bucherer’s company history says Carl Friedrich Bucherer and his wife, Louise, opened a watch and jewellery shop in Lucerne.
- 1924: Bucherer’s history says Ernst Bucherer entered into a partnership with Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf. Rolex also says Bucherer had been an official Rolex retailer since that year.
- 24 August 2023: Rolex announced its decision to acquire Bucherer, saying the retailer would retain its name and operate independently, subject to competition approval.
- 2024: Bucherer’s corporate history says it became part of Rolex.
- 6 June 2024: The European Commission recorded notification of the proposed transaction under which Rolex would acquire sole control of Bucherer. Its decision identifies Carl F. Bucherer as Bucherer’s luxury-watch brand.
- 7 February 2025: Secondary coverage attributed to Bilanz a report that Rolex was shutting down Carl F. Bucherer.
What is not confirmed about production, sales and servicing?
The available sources do not establish a final production date, whether every CFB sale has ended, or what warranty, repair and spare-parts support will be available for existing watches. The European Commission’s description of CFB manufacturing, repair, maintenance and spare-parts activities documents the business before the shutdown report; it does not set out a current service policy.
Owners seeking help with a specific watch should check its warranty documents and contact Bucherer or the authorised service channel listed for that watch. Do not assume either that service has stopped or that a particular future service arrangement is guaranteed based on the shutdown report alone.

A report of a possible brand closure does not by itself establish that a watch is rare, will appreciate, or is a sound investment. Anyone considering a pre-owned Carl F. Bucherer watch should assess the individual watch: verify its provenance and authenticity, inspect condition, and ask for documented service history. The existence of a product category or marketplace listing is not proof that a seller or watch has been authenticated.
