RollieFest 2025 brought collectors together across three Manhattan landmarks for a private dinner, a day of watch sharing and a farewell cocktail. The watches drew attention, but attendee accounts describe the gathering’s real draw as the chance to meet fellow collectors and see their collections up close.
What is RollieFest?
RollieFest is an invitation-only gathering for watch collectors founded by Geoff Hess, whom the event coverage identifies as Sotheby’s Global Head of Watches. Time+Tide describes it as a biennial event that began in 2019. The 2021 edition was skipped, making 2025 the third edition.
The name may suggest a Rolex-focused event, but the reporting describes a brand-agnostic gathering. Watches are the shared interest; the program is also built around the relationships, stories and conversations that grow out of collecting. Hess put it this way: “RollieFest has always been about more than just watches – it’s about the people, the stories, and the passion that connect us through horology.” Time+Tide’s report quotes him on the role of community in the event.
Where was RollieFest 2025 held?
The two-day program connected three landmark Manhattan settings, with a different gathering at each. The itinerary was kept closely guarded: attendees reportedly learned the precise venues shortly before the opening dinner, a security measure given the valuable watches in attendance.

Hodinkee and Time+Tide both report the three-stop itinerary. The controlled release of venue details was part of the event’s security-conscious approach, not a public invitation or open ticketing process. Why is RollieFest called the “Met Gala” of watches?
“Met Gala” is a colorful comparison used in attendee coverage, not RollieFest’s official name. It conveys the combination of a private guest list, notable venues, high-value watches and a dressed-up social occasion. The analogy should not obscure the event’s more specific character: it is a collector gathering organized around sharing watches and connecting with other enthusiasts.

The secrecy around the venues also distinguishes the experience from a public exhibition. Published accounts describe a carefully managed event whose guests learned where they were going shortly before the opening. The available reporting does not establish a public application, ticketing process or complete attendee roster.
What watches were there?
Reports describe a broad mix of vintage and modern watches, rather than a single-brand showcase. The names mentioned include Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Patek Philippe and Breguet, alongside independent makers and less commonly seen brands such as F.P. Journe, Roger Smith, Simon Brette and Vianney Halter.

The day-two gathering at ASPIRE was the visual centerpiece: hundreds of guests and watches spread across the venue, with collectors sharing pieces and talking through what they brought. Sotheby’s / The Collector’s Circle said the 2025 edition brought together 210 collectors and estimated that rare timepieces on one table were worth $20 million. That $20 million figure is the account’s estimate for the watches on that table—not an audited valuation or a total for every watch at RollieFest.
Published photos are a glimpse, not a complete inventory. Hodinkee notes that not every watch was photographed; its writer, for example, did not see a Daytona reference 6270. No photo report should be read as showing everything present.

Is RollieFest only about Rolex?
No. The name is not a reliable guide to the range of watches shown. The attendee reports describe a brand-agnostic event with established Swiss names, independent makers, vintage pieces and modern watches. The common thread is the collectors’ interest in horology, not a requirement to wear or bring a particular brand.

That social dimension helps explain why a watch-sharing table can be more than a display. A watch can prompt a conversation about its maker, history or the circumstances in which it was found; the event gives collectors time and space to have those exchanges face to face. The reports portray community as a central feature of the program, not a side effect of putting rare watches in one room.
