The Rolex Submariner Date ref. 116610LV is the discontinued green-on-green Submariner commonly nicknamed the “Hulk”: it pairs a green dial with a green Cerachrom bezel in a 40 mm Oystersteel case. Rolex produced it from 2010 to 2020. Its current green-bezel successor, ref. 126610LV, has a black dial and a 41 mm case, so it is not a direct visual repeat. This review covers published specifications and model history; no individual watch was examined or tested.
What the Rolex Submariner 116610LV is
The 116610LV is a stainless-steel Submariner Date distinguished by its matching green dial and green ceramic bezel. Collectors commonly call it the “Hulk,” but that nickname is not an official Rolex model name. Bob’s Watches dates the reference’s production to 2010–2020 and identifies the green-on-green combination as its defining feature: Bob’s Watches’ 116610LV reference guide.
That combination also separates it from the earlier green Submariner Date ref. 16610LV, often called the “Kermit.” Hodinkee describes the Kermit as having a black dial and green aluminum bezel, while the 116610LV pairs a green dial with a green ceramic bezel: Hodinkee’s account of the 116610LV.

What distinguishes the design
Green dial and green ceramic bezel
The dial-and-bezel pairing is the 116610LV’s most obvious point of difference from other green Submariners. Hodinkee describes the 2010 green-on-green model as a departure from the earlier black-dial, green-bezel styling. The bezel uses a ceramic insert rather than the aluminum insert attributed to the 16610LV Kermit. The nickname “Hulk” is useful shorthand for the 116610LV, but it should not be used to blur the distinction between those references.
40 mm case
The reference guide lists a 40 mm case. That number gives a useful point of comparison with the 41 mm 126610LV, but it cannot predict how the watch will feel on every wrist. Fit depends on the wearer and the individual watch; the published dimensions alone do not establish a universal comfort or wearability advantage.

116610LV vs. the current green-bezel successor
The 126610LV replaced the 116610LV in 2020, according to Bob’s Watches. Rolex’s current product page identifies the 126610LV as a Submariner Date in Oystersteel: Rolex Submariner Date 126610LV. The cited dealer guide describes the successor as having a 41 mm case, green Cerachrom bezel, and black dial: WatchGuys’ Hulk and successor comparison.

The decision is primarily about which color layout and reference status you want. Choose the 116610LV if the all-green dial-and-bezel combination is central to the appeal and you are shopping for a discontinued model. The 126610LV keeps a green bezel in the current catalog, but its black dial changes the overall look. A fair current price comparison is not established by the cited material.

Movement and performance: what published information can—and cannot—show
The 116610LV is listed with Rolex calibre 3135. Hodinkee reports a 48-hour power reserve and chronometer certification for the movement. Those are published specifications, not measurements of an individual watch’s daily rate, reserve, or service condition.
Condition-specific inspection matters. In one example, the Treasury auction catalogue said the movement was working but had not been tested for accuracy after the case was opened: New Zealand Treasury auction catalogue, Auction 1, 2021. That statement applies to the catalogue’s particular lot, not to every 116610LV.

Buying a pre-owned 116610LV
Because the reference is discontinued, buyers will generally be assessing individual pre-owned listings rather than choosing a new example from Rolex’s current catalog. A listing’s description can vary with condition and with what accessories are included. Review the watch itself and the seller’s terms instead of treating the reference name as a guarantee of completeness or condition.
- Condition: Ask for clear, current photographs and a precise account of visible wear or replacement parts. A model guide does not verify the condition of the listed watch.
- Box and papers: Confirm exactly which accessories and documents are included; their presence or absence affects what the listing represents.
- Service documentation: Request available service records and clarify who performed the work and when. Documentation is not, on its own, an independent authentication.
- Seller and return terms: Check the seller’s reputation, written return policy, and the route available if the delivered watch differs from the listing.
- Authentication and function: Arrange an assessment by a qualified watch professional if you need independent verification. Do not infer authenticity, accuracy, or water resistance from photographs or from the reference number.
Price and value: why a precise figure is not established here
Published accounts conflict on the reference’s final U.S. retail price before discontinuation. Bob’s Watches reports $9,350 as the final U.S. MSRP, while WatchGuys reports $9,050. Neither figure is confirmed by the cited historical Rolex product information, so neither should be presented as definitive: Bob’s Watches; WatchGuys.

The 116610LV is a clearly differentiated Submariner Date: its defining feature is the all-green combination of dial and ceramic bezel, backed by published specifications including a 40 mm steel case, calibre 3135, and 300 m stated water resistance. Its closest current green-bezel successor changes the dial to black and the case to 41 mm. Whether the discontinued Hulk is the better fit depends on wanting that specific green-on-green design—not on an established price or investment case.
