The RZE Fortitude is a titanium pilot-style watch designed by RZE founder and professional pilot Travis Tan. The original automatic model pairs an SII NH35A movement with a legibility-focused dial and turbine-inspired bezel; the later Fortitude GMT is a separate model with a Miyota 9075 “True” GMT movement. RZE’s collection currently lists three GMT versions as sold out, so the title’s “new” describes the watch’s launch-era positioning, not a new release today.
Who designed the RZE Fortitude, and what inspired it?
Travis Tan, RZE’s founder and a professional pilot, says he drew on his aviation experience when designing the Fortitude. In a design article published December 23, 2021, he described the turbine-inspired bezel as a reference to aircraft turbines he operates. He also said the dial was designed to make the time quick to read at a glance. These are Tan’s stated design intentions, not independent findings about cockpit performance. Read Tan’s design account at RZE.
The aviation cues include a turbine-like bezel, a sand-textured sandwich dial, large hands and bold applied indexes. RZE specifies Grade A BGW9 Super-LumiNova on the dial elements, while the case has a satin finish. The combination gives the watch a purpose-driven pilot aesthetic without establishing that it is aviation-certified or tested for use in an aircraft cockpit.
What movement does the original Fortitude use?
The original Fortitude is specified with an SII NH35A automatic movement. It is not the GMT model, and its specification should not be confused with the Miyota movement in the later Fortitude GMT. RZE’s original Fortitude specification page lists the NH35A alongside a titanium case and bracelet, sapphire crystal, and 100 m water resistance.

How big is the Fortitude?
RZE lists the original Fortitude as 41 mm wide, 12.5 mm thick and 47 mm from lug to lug. Its lug width is 20 mm, tapering to 16 mm at the buckle, and RZE gives the bracelet-equipped weight as 110–120 g. The relatively compact 47 mm lug-to-lug figure is useful to compare with a watch you already wear; case diameter alone does not tell you how a watch will span your wrist. See RZE’s Fortitude dimensions page for the published measurements.

Fortitude vs. Fortitude GMT: what changes?
| Model | Movement and function | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Original Fortitude | SII NH35A automatic; no GMT movement specified | The original titanium pilot-style model and its specifications are documented on RZE’s Fortitude specification and dimensions pages. |
| Fortitude GMT | Miyota 9075 “True” GMT automatic movement, according to RZE | A distinct later GMT variant, not simply another name for the original NH35A model. |
RZE’s product material identifies the GMT movement as a “True” GMT, but the available specifications here do not detail how its local-hour adjustment works. Avoid assuming the original Fortitude has GMT capability, or transferring the GMT’s movement specification to it. The GMT product variants appear on RZE’s Fortitude collection page.
Is the RZE Fortitude still available?
RZE’s collection page currently lists the Nighthawk, Crimson Red and TurboTeal Fortitude GMT variants from $699 and marks them sold out. That is a time-sensitive snapshot of the official collection, not proof that no retailer has stock or that the watches will not return. The available listing evidence does not establish current stock for the original Fortitude or an exact-model Amazon listing. Check the official collection page for current status before buying.

Is the Fortitude a good pilot watch?
On paper, the Fortitude has recognizable pilot-watch priorities: high-contrast hands and indexes, luminous material, a clear time-reading brief from its pilot-designer, and a turbine-inspired bezel. It also offers a titanium case and bracelet, 100 m stated water resistance, and dimensions that can be compared directly against a wearer’s fit preferences. Whether it is a good choice depends on whether those features, the 41 mm case and the specific model’s availability suit you. The documented information establishes design intent and manufacturer specifications, not aviation certification, independent cockpit testing or a comparative performance verdict.
For a practical comparison with other pilot or GMT watches, compare lug-to-lug length as well as case width, check the movement and the exact GMT mechanism if relevant, and distinguish manufacturer ratings from independent test results. A 20 mm replacement strap is a plausible option for the original’s lug width, but verify its width, end shape and clearance before purchasing.
